Good eats in Titusville, Florida? Tue, 11/9/10 10:36 PM (permalink)
My husband is heading to Titusville and wants to know if anyone can recommend good local eateries--BBQ, burgers, anywhere locals hang out.  Thanks in advance.

I'll beat Paul to this one:  Dixie Crossroads.

      Gregg,

I am not sure that you could say it is where the locals eat, as the parking lot is usually packed with out-of-state licence plates - but, the food is fabulous.  Well, the (broiled) rock shrimp are fabulous.  Most everything else I have ever eaten there has been something on this side of ordinary.

That said, Titusville isn't really much of an eatin' town.  Where do the locals hang out?  Beef O' Brady's - but, I wouldn't really send anyone there.  If your husband will have a car, he would do better to head a couple of miles down the road to Cocoa Beach.

If I were a local, I'd eat there.  I wonder if there is ever a circumstance where locals don't eat at a favorite place BECAUSE too many tourists have found it ???

Dixie Crossroads is a "must-do",  The rock shrimp are just wonderful.  The place serves many tourists because there is no place else to get rock shrimp as good as the ones that you get here.

Near to Dixie Crossroads, he might want to check out Heavenly Bar-b-q (1413 Garden St.).

I'm guessing he isn't flying into Titusville ... Maybe we can find him some good Cuban enroute.

I am going to pile on here for Dixie Crossroads.

When I was in town, this is where the locals took me.

Well,  I have never had a good meal at Dixie Crossroads.  The only good thing about the place is the little donuts with powdered sugar they serve instead of rolls.

I dunno.  Those little rock shrimp are hard to screw up and I think they are great (grilled).

OK So Dixie Cross Roads get's a mixed review! My take...Once a year is enough for us! Go...don't go? You'll be in Titusville so GO! But also in Titusville in the center of town on the left side going south on RTE 1 is......The Bread Company !!!!!!!!!! I think that's the name . I'll research after I post and get back. Anyway! Excellent 5 grain and WW MADE on the premises!
Now that you're heading south on RTE 1 go to "The Port" which is Port Canaveral. You'll have to take a Left east onto 528 and that will bring you to the exit "George King BLVD" exit and take a left at Flounder (I think 2nd light?). At the end of Flounder is "Grill's"!!!! My favorite place! If you go there on a Sunday around 3-4 you'll see the huge cruise ships sail right by the windows fantastic! They have the BEST grilled Tuna and an excellent breakfast also. Lunch is a good deal there. You can dine in or out.
Heading south on RTE 1 again go to RTE 528 East and get off at RTE 3 Heading North and head to "The Causeway Diner". It will be on your right about a mile north...I think! Good diner grub and good prices! Meatloaf is great!
Heading south on RTE 1 get off at 528 again and keep going until it turns into A1A and goes to Cocoa Beach (also home to Ron Jons) and go to "Coconuts on the Beach" Fantastic beachside spot! They have great bugers and sweet potatoe fries! And they have great Buffalo Wings! Besides great food they are "an experience"!
If I think of more will add later. Happy Eating! KokomoJoe

Also in the port area, I can recommend Auddino's Italian Bakery (523 Glen Cheek Drive) for pastries, cakes, cookies & in-house churned gelato.

YES I forgot about that bakery! It just opened several months ago. It's great! And it's litterally around the corner from Grill's! Happy Eating! Be sure to let us know where you do go! KokomoJoe
