Got sick at Jack in the Box

Had a Breakfast Jack yesterday morning. The egg was GREEN and after I noticed it after a few bites I went to the manager and she said it gets that way after sitting for a while. She offered me another sandwich or free hashbrowns. Within the hour I became very ill will vomiting, etc along with upset stomach. This lasted all day and night and still 26 hrs later still sick. I should have gone to ER yesterday but felt to ill to leave house....my mistake. I went back there a half hr ago to get an incident report to take to hospital and same manager refused to give me one although she acknowledged the incident.  So I called corporate and filled a complaint. They said I need to pay for the doctor out of pocket and then the insurance company will make a decision as far as paying the claim....or they could send me a gift certificate for my pain and suffering. WOW! Reminds me of their E-Coli issue of years past. Bottom line get sick and they don't care.

They told me that after 3-4 minutes in the warming tray the eggs start to turn green. That is what the customer complaint people at the corporate office told me. No BS on my part just upset at the attitude on their end.

JITB uses whole eggs. Whole eggs do turn a shade of green when they are held for an extended period of time. Especially if they are older eggs. It's not like green on bread.

Skip...when something like this happens it's up to you to document what happens (in real -time). Otherwise...claims happen every day. It's impossible to separate the sense from the nonsense with a phone call...a day or so later.

It would be foolish for anyone to pay claims out-of-pocket just because a claim is filed without an investigation or documentation in real-time.

Just like if someone claimed they fell in front of your house...you wouldn't reach for your checkbook without the insurance company.

It's also a good idea to always look at your food...before you eat it.

cc- I agree with you. Like I said I should have gone to the ER yesterday. At the time of incident I was annoyed but not yet sick and went about my day without causing a scene. In hindsight I should have been more vocal.

I do feel for you. I seriously doubt you joined Roadfood in 2007 with a big plan to mess with Jack....years later.

I hope you feel better soon!

Especially if held in an aluminum warming tray. We had entire pans of scrambled eggs turn green during a  pancake breakfast before we sprung for stainless steel warming trays. Those eggs didn't sit for more than 15 minutes on a buffet. Which I realize is not the same as ordering fast food, but still...there was nothing wrong with the eggs, they just had a greenish tint to them.

Skip, sorry you had to go through this, I hope your feeling better. If they cook the eggs to order, they wouldn't be green. My question to them would be, why wasn't it cooked to order. It looks like they are cooking ahead to keep up with the rush. When the rush stops, they still had eggs in some kind of a warmer that didn't keep it up to temp. It also looks like they may have been under cooked in the first place and they kept at a temp under 140 degrees for holding. I would bet, their cooking station isn't set up for warm/hold items, so they may have a make shift way of holding it in their cooking area........like I said, fresh cooked eggs don't turn green...................hope you get well quick, then go kick their a--...................pnwc

I cooked a lot of brunches at a lot of places (which is why I cannot eat eggs) and we always added a splash of lemon juice to the eggs so they wouldn't turn that "creepy green" color.  But cooked to order eggs are never, ever green.

Easy for me. I stick to the Jack Tacos. Been eating them for 48 years and I haven't got sick yet!

I'm with Ed, Give me $5.00 worth of the 2/a buck Greasy Tacos..and a large Dr Pepper and I will be fueled for a long time. We don't have any JITB in the Louisville area, but saw a couple in St Louis on our trip thru there last weekend...will keep them in mind.

Meantime I hope "Skip..."  is feeling better. I have the thought in mind you're beating a dead horse  trying to get more than a food certificate out of the JITB management.

Beat a dead horse much? 20 years ago. That's why I have a bit of trouble believing Skip's drama.
It is why they cook everything to order now.

As a result, most all of their stores east of the Mississippi closed.  The main reason I remembered the e-coli story was because most of the JINTB's in NoVa became Popeye's - back in the day when Popeye's actually put spice in their "Spicy".

Here in Texas they seem to have more TV ads than McDonald's and are doing quite well.  But every food business seems to do well in Texas.

Well  I didn't want anything from them except a incident report in case I went to the hospital. The upsetting part, and why I wrote this, was due to the way management, plus corporate, handled it. Sorry to burst your bubble but I wanted no money, etc...

They say they cook to order and I have never had a single problem with them over the years. But the local store and corporate both put the blame on the eggs sitting in a warming tray. End of story.

And for those who asked I am feeling better.

I believe your story. Just because they say they cook everything to order doesn't mean they do. Unless there is a health inspector every day on premises, people do cut corners for whatever reason. I know-I live it every day and have to correct my employees every single day.

I received a burger at McDonald's last night that had half of a sticker on the wrapper.  I could easily read what it had said....  USE FIRST.

I was not pleased but there was nothing wrong with it.

Being a partial sticker could it have said "RE-USE FIRST"?

Never ever had this happen to me at a Jack in the Box here in Schertz,or when they had one in Universal City. They are supposed to make everything fresh.
Have I gotten food poisoning at a regular restaurant, yes. But never that I can recall from any fast food place with the vomitin and diahrea.
