Once every few years Brooks and I get a hankering for New Jersey style Sausage and peppers. Almost any catered event at the Firehall or Knights of Columbus had sausage and peppers as one of the dishes. But it was the S&P on the Boardwalk that was the best. Not because it was the highest quality, but because it was in the best atmosphere.

Tonight we had sausage and peppers, onions, garlic, and a few mushrooms on a long roll. Too good.  Now my brain is thinking of the rides on pier at Seaside Heights.  Well it’s not the rides, but great memories of the Jersey Shore.

We grew up with it, and it is like an old friend you see every 5 years or so.

Do you have old food friends like this?

A plate of tacos at El Patio in Capistrano Beach after a 6 hour run of non-stop surfing at Doheny. The surf at Doheny gave way to the breakwater jetties of  Dana Point harbor back in the late sixties, but El Patio is still there, in the same building and owned by the same family since 1953. The tacos taste the same, but the 25 cent a piece price disappeared decades ago, along with my misspent youth.
