CEO Richard Graeter is coming to Chicago this week to check out four sites that could help establish the ice cream shop in the Chicago market. The company has 40 retail locations in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.
By opening shops in Chicago, Mr. Graeter hopes to increase brand awareness and...

The excerpt above is from a local Chicago business journal.  Looks like there may be a little ice cream in my future....and while I'm at it, Jeni's is here and doing fine.

Your freezer can only hold so much.  Sooner or later all that Graeter's Ice Cream is going to migrate west and the Ohio locations will wither away to nothing.

But then you'll have another reason to visit Chicago.

To get some Graeter's? If I'm going to Chicago it's not going to be for ice cream. I want Italian beef.

I will share our wonderful ice cream with you folks in da windy city.

Krogers had their Graeters pints on sale for $3.49 each, they were "out" of peach so I got 2 rain checks for the sale price.  I just need freezer space before I go on and pick up 20 or so pints

I just saw this update about Graeter's in Chicago. Looks like the first location will be in Northbrook.

I'm not so keen about Graeter's anymore, now that I discovered Turtle Tracks from Velvet.  I'm not even a big ice cream fan, but this stuff is wonderful.  Vanilla ice cream with caramel swirls, butter pecans and chocolate covered caramel cups.

Graeter's was available in Kansas City for about 6 months before it left. Hy-vee grocery stores carried it a $5.99 a pint. Needless to say it didn't sell well when Ben and Jerry's was $4.49 a pint, and Haagan Dazs was $3.99.

It's all about the freight.  Here in Chicago it was selling for $4.99 a pint ($3.99 on special).  The further west you go, the more expensive it will get.

Actually, I've seen it for as high as $7.99 at the Whole Foods in Evanston, but it's generally about $4.99 or less at the Treasure Island in Wilmette. The really good thing about the Treasure Island is that they have something like 10 or more flavors, including my favorite toffee chip.

David, I have no doubt you saw Graeter's selling at Whole Foods for $7.99, but it's not a fair comparison to the other major grocery outlets around town.  It's no accident that Whole foods nickname is "Whole Paycheck", as in that's what you'll spend for a few days worth of groceries there.
