Great Chicago Pizza chain opinions?

We're getting a Great Chicago Pizza in Lexington, KY. They're going into the building the Don Pablo's that just left. I like all styles of pizza and believe me the pickings are slim around here. Are they worth a visit? Andrea

I don't think there is a pizza chain called Great Chicago Pizza. The only similar sounding names I could find are East of Chicago Pizza Company, and Chicago's Pizza.

Maybe it is Chicago's Pizza --- I'm just repeating what I was told, but the person could have had it wrong. Anyway, it's some kind of "Chicago" chain and is going into Hamburg Place. Andrea

Doesn't look like it's going to beOld Chicago...I went to the "Locations" page and Lexington isn't listed as a "coming soon" city. Brad

It is Old Chicago Pasta & Pizza that's going into the old Don Pablo's location. It's a Colorado chain. Apparently, their website hasn't kept up with developments.

Saw on the menu they will have an Italian beef sandwich. While I'm sure it might pale in comparison to something you'd get in Chicago, I'd be glad to have a location here in the People's Republic of Maryland. I'd surely give it a try for the sandwich and the pizza. Thanks, Kevin

Thanks. We used to have an Uno's here but I never went because I heard it was overpriced for what you got. I do like our local Joe Bologna's, but am always looking for something new worth trying. Andrea

Andrea, I called Rock Bottom Restaurants, the parent company, to find out when they plan to open in Lexington and was told "around August". BTW, doesn't Rock Bottom sound like a bad name for a restaurant chain?

It reminds me of the old Kiss song "you've hit rock bottom and you're there to stay!". "Solid Ground" would be another story --- but "rock bottom" implies something the opposite. What a name! Andrea

If it is an Old Chicago pizza chain restaurant as someone above indicated, then most will be very disappointed in their pizza products. I've lived in and eaten (too) many great pizzas in Chicago in my life time and have tried the Old Chicago chain at several locations, including here in Florida, and they taste nothing like pizza that is made in Chicago (except maybe at some of the bottom rung places). It is a Colorado chain that appears to have no connection with Chicago other than its name. Oh, . . . but the pizzas are round like they are in Chicago! I guess "Old Colorado" wouldn't sell. And while I'm at it, the disreputed "Uno's Chicago Grill" that someone above mentioned serves nothing as good as the pizza you get in Chicago either, but they, too, are round. Lexington deserves better than either of these chains.

We'll probably try it when it opens, but mostly for the sandwiches and to get started on their 110 Beer Tour.
