I recently returned from a trip to Ohio and had some great Roadfood experiences. One night I was taken to Skyline Chili. I know that this is a chain but I call it Roadfood because I cannot get it in any other place. I never thought that I would like chili on spaghetti but it certainly is delicious and the service was great..................company was outstanding so it made for a nice first evening.
I enjoyed Crabill's just as much as I have before.
http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.aspx?RefID=519 When we came in, a whole family had taken up every seat except one. The father of the family was gracious enough and insisted that my RF buddy and I sit together and he got up and stood. It seems like his children were having a contest to see who could eat the most hamburgers and he had decided that it might be a long time.
As usual, it was fun watching the three gals working together like clockwork and putting many of these small and delicious hamburgers together. Along with Stewart's root beer, it was a delicious meal and this will always be one of my "top ten" roadfood stops.
For dessert, we headed out for Henry's for me to try the pie.
http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.aspx?RefID=544 I guess that I chose the wrong pie..............custard.............it was good but certainly not what I had hoped for. The filling was about half the amount that I have ever had in a custard pie. The next time, I would try something different.
One day, we enjoyed Cap City Diner for their Wednesday special of liver and onions. Their presentation is about the best that I have ever eaten.
http://www.capcityfinediner.com/ The drinks are expensive but this is an upscale diner which serves lovely food. The sauce for the liver and onions was so terrific that I asked my host if he could possibly get the recipe and he was able to get it and now I am going to duplicate it at home.
An outstanding meal was had at
http://www.scaliristorante.com/home.html I love this restaurant. Your reservations are honored with no wait and the service is very attentive. The "mama",, who cannot speak English , came over to our table to greet us. She was lovely. A very nice bottle of wine was ordered and we were happy. At one point, the chef-owner came to our table to apologize for the delay in our entrees being delivered to table and offered us a bottle of wine or an appetizer. I thought that was so gracious. We had not even noticed any delay so declined.
When our entrees were served, I was thrilled with mine. I actually had ordered an appetizer which is wonderful and enough for an entree. It was shrimp sauteed with cognac and gorgonzola cheese. Along with the great bread to dip into the outstanding sauce, it made for a wonderful meal.
I nearly forgot one of my favorite stops!
http://www.velveticecream.com/ This is the best ice cream and I tried a new flavor which was the best ice cream that I have ever tasted ............cappuccino....it was just wonderful!
It was a great week in Ohio.
