Greek Vlita (amaranth) Mon, 09/19/05 7:16 PM (permalink)
When I was younger I spent my summers in greece and among my favorite dishes was vlita me keftethes(meatballs) and skordalia. Does anyone know where i could get some vlita(amaranth). I am in Philadelphia.

Well I've never been to Philadelphia but if you're ever in Toronto, Ontario go to Greek Town and go to Mr. Greek! I've never tried the dishes you've had but they have a really good Chicken Souvlaki meal.

I was just checking out on the net and here is a page that gives you reviews on Greek Restaurants in Philadelphia.

      http://philadelphia.citysearch.com/search?x=0&y=0&init_search=1&context=restaurants_bars&miles=30&pre_geo_id2=&request_market_only=&query=Greek%20Food&constrained=on&cslink=cs_topbar_search&pre_csz=&pre_geo_id1=&store_where_for_comparison=Philadelphia,%20PA&started=1&hotelAttraction=

      Hope this helps you!

Try asking for lamb quarters, pigwood, goosefoot or wild spinach. These are the common names for vlita.
