I always wondered how MS got credit for this:
"Some folks from out West might question how it is that Greenville is known as the Tamale Capital of the World. After all, generally areas of the Southwest and Mexico are better known for tamales."
Makes sense after reading the article, HOWEVER, it is a different style Tamale than you find "Out West".
Looks like the festival would be fun as long a someone makes crawfish tamales!

I have had Greenville MS hot tamales and although they are very good, I prefer southwestern tamales better.  I enjoy the filling of the Greenville tamales better than SW but I prefer the masa meal exterior in SW over the cornmeal used in Greenville.
Here is the music mentioned in the article and it is pretty good.:

Hot Tamale Heaven's tamales are the best I've ever eaten, and I've tried a few on that list, as well as others in Mississippi. The owner of HTH is a really nice guy, and is great to talk to (if he isn't busy).

Comparing Greenville / Mississippi Delta Tamales to southwestern tamales is like comparing Chicago deep dish pizza to New York pizza. Two really great , but very different, products.

Odds are, you'll meet more characters on the Mississippi Tamale Trail than you will on the hunt for southwestern tamales.
