I guess this would sound good to a chocolate lover. This recipe is from paper edition of The Dallas Morning News. 2 slices of walnut or raisin bread 1/2 - 1 TBS butter 1 1/2 oz. of bittersweet chocolate (best with 60% cocoa) Powdered sugar Butter the outside of the bread slices and place chocolate between slices. Cook on a griddle like a grilled cheese sandwich, and when brown sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cut in 1/2.

I'm not sure what the problem here is, pace disliking chocolate. (Not liking chocolate is akin to what St. Thomas Acquinas described as "invincible ignorance". It's not an insult, but you'll have to look it up if you care.) If you - I'm sorry, but the loathsome word seems appropriate here - deconstruct the recipe, you find something not dissimilar to a crepe filled with chocolate, the bread taking the place of the crepe. As far as flavors go? Chocolate with butter, chocolate with raisins, chocolate with walnuts, chocolate with sugar? These are classic, verging on mandatory, combinations. Personally, I wish I had one of these suckers now to finish off my coffee with.

Doesn't seem dissimilar to toasted raisin bread with p-nut butter and a hersey bar. Add a banana or thinly sliced apple and your getting close to snackers nirvana, top it all with a scoop or 2 of icecream, butterscotch topping , whipcream and a cherry and your in a gluttons heaven!

Ya know what my mom used to give us as kids? Brown sugar sandwiches. Two slices of white bread a little butter and either light or dark brown sugar. My grandmother made them for my mom when she was little and a Canadian friend used to eat them too, so maybe it's a Canadian thing. My grandmother was raised in Canada. I still get cravings for them now and then.

Sounds like another concoction that you just have to try without knowing what it is to see if you enjoy it. I do enjoy chocolate croissants, and Tim Horton's recently started making a chocolate danish which isn't bad, although the maple pecan is my favorite.

This brought back some memories. When my son was small (he just turned 39) his grandparents would buy "chocolate jam" for him at the Wilbur Chocolate factory store in Lititz, PA. Available only at that store, it was similar to a chocolate ganache, I think, but a little stiffer. Our son loved it on toast, pound cake and anything else, and would have eaten it on his cereal, had he figured out a way to spread it on the top. I liked it right out of the jar. Sadly, they stopped making it a long time ago. I think if you make a chocolate ganache (semi-sweet chocolate, cream, a little superfine sugar) you can get a close approximation of it. If you put some in little jars you have a nice little gift. Refrigerate it, though.

This reminded me of something from my childhood. Growing up, my family went camping every summer, and it was mandatory to make smores over the campfire. I was never crazy about them, as I don't care much for marshmallow. One year my Dad picked up a couple of these clamshell type cookers, where you sqeeze two slices of bread with filling between and roast it over the campfire. We started out with cherry pie filling and these were pretty good if you could get them off the fire at the right time. The best part happened once when I put half a Hershey bar into the cherry pie. This was great. Drippy melted chocolate and cherry combined. I even made them with just chocolate when the pie filling ran out.

Michigander, we also have one of those campfire cookers and they're just great. If you are a fan of lemon, try lemon pie filling (the kind that comes in a can) in your pie maker. You can also make one of my famous peanut butter/strawberry grilled sandwiches in that thing. We've had ours for at least 30 years.
