Not all people who are looking at the site are unregistered guests. Some are people whose accounts are not actively logged in. Not that I am speaking from personal experience, of course....

Uncle Vic, If I log on (upper right hand side of display) then I cannot post. If I simply go to forums and ask to reply to a post, enter my handle, and password then things go well (this does not not log me in). Simply don't care if my security system or roadfood.com is preventing the other way or not. Over the years I've come to accept Mr. Gates crap system. Why spend ten hours figuring out a glitch when it takes zero time to get around it and still accomplish the task at hand? PS...it's "you're" not "your"

Greymo, My wife makes the same your/you're mistake all the time and she is much smarter than I. Using your when you need to use you're isn't mistyping. As to wether the other poster knows as much or more than I...who knows. As S. Clemmens said " All people are ignorant about something" I confess to being one of the most ignorant humans walking the earth.

I hang out as a visitor too. Only time it gives me problems is if I make a mistake on a post. Then I HAVE to log in, because it's the only way to get the edit feature. I confess that mis-using your and you're is one of my pet peeves and I cringe when I see it used incorrectly. I'm glad some people keep on correctin'.... Then there's 'hanged' and 'hung'. A lesson in futility.

Al, I'm a very happy camper. Compared to some other places I post this is a walk in the park. The idiots, let's try to be nice Mikie...the mentally challenged folks at Chowhound.com delete at least one of my posts per week. I was banned from a poultry site (backyardchickens.com) for telling a woman "It's a chicken for God's sake...kill it and move on, the vet will charge you $100 and won't have a clue as to what is wrong w/ it". She had posted a long list of problems w/ the chicken in question which clearly indicated the chicken was going to die soon. That's me...the insensitive hobby farmer. It's- a conjugation of "it is" Its- the pocessive use. Did I get it right?

I even still use WordPerfect out of spite! (And it's still not as fast as WP for DOS was. ) And don't crank this old grammarian up! But it should be "Mr. Gates's." Now if someone could clarify end punctuation while using quotation marks up for me.

Rick, If you are writing for the N.Y. Times, right you are about the possessive proper noun ending in s. Editors elsewhere, in their zeal to modify, often slash it to Gate's. Now it's just plain wrong. I certainly prefer s's. However, I'm not sure if any other style and usage book stipulates it. The Bear
