Gonna have to be more specific than that. Also, check the reviewed restaurants on this site. What is your proposed route? What is your destination?

You MUST go to the Florabama! No Excuses!
On the AL - FL state line. Bikini Paradise!!!!!!!
Just checked their web site and there is a BBQ Festival and Bikini Contest over the 4th of July!! WOOO HOOOO!
    http://florabama.com/
Also, you're close to the Pensacola Naval Air Station.
Another MUST SEE is the Naval Air Museum. ESPECIALLY if you have kids.
This is the home base of The Blue Angels and you might catch them practicing, usually on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Sorry if I was abrupt. All these other folks sound like they know where you're going, already. Still, it's advise you with more information.  Guess I should call this 'Guilt Shores' since I am feeling ashamed of my manners. I assumed Gulf Shores was an area. I didn't know it was a city.

Do a search for some of the threads I've done on Orange Beach/Gulf Shores/Fairhope. Lots of good eating there and great drinks and food at The Gulf.

If you've never been to the FL Panhandle - AL Gulf Coast, you'll be amazed by the beautiful white, sugar sand beaches as illustrated in EdSails picture above.
And the water is a beautiful blue/green color and warm too!
Lived there 16 years and miss it, EXCEPT for the humidity & an occasional hurricane,

Living in P'cola for 16 years, I was in Joe Patti's on a regular basis. Great quality fresh seafood. Never really cared for Rock Shrimp but Royal Reds - There's some good eats!
Joe's Snapper & Grouper were the best!

I am now on the lookout for Royal Reds since I think broiled Rocks are one of the best foods in the world.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Royal Reds are indigenous to the upper Gulf Coast and not found elsewhere. I could be wrong. (Hard to imagine!
    EDIT:
    Did some research:
Royal red shrimp live in the deepest parts of the Gulf of Mexico and are caught in water more than 600 feet deep. The shrimp are prized for their deep red color and salty taste.
The area surrounding the Deep-water Horizon wellhead is one of the primary fishing grounds for the shrimp.

In Nashville, if you have time checkout Loveless Café www.lovelesscafe.com it's a little bit West of I-65, South of N'ville but worth the detour
Also, Downtown Franklin, TN, just South of N'ville off I-65. Quaint restaurants in historic downtown

    Ed,
Ever been to the Florabama? It's been expanded as a result of Katrina since I was last there in 2000 but it looks like it's still has the Beach Vibe and Funky Fun atmosphere. Plan on going?????

J-dog, if you get a hankering for Mexican food as you approach Indianapolis you might consider stopping at The Tamale Place on the west side.
