HISTORY OF AMERICAN DINERS- NYT article

There is an article in today's New York Times about American diners. It can be read at NYT.com. It's a good read (and check out the "Vermontichristo" sandwich).

Make it easy next time (post the link)... Spent a couple minutes reading about luxury prisons (pay to stay), before I remembered what I was looking for...

    Diner story: http://travel.nytimes.com/2007/04/27/travel/escapes/27trip_ready.html

Then the pay to stay prison story: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/29/us/29jail.html?ref=todayspaper

If you have any interest in the history of diners, I highly recommend Richard Gutman's books over all others. He was the first to rediscover diners and the only one to do real scholarly research on their history as well as being an expert on their restoration.
