Seems that Hooters seems to do much better down South than in the Northeast. People from Texas, Alabama and the Carolinas enjoy seeing women in their daisy dukes listening to Skynard, and the women see working at Hooters to be a glamerous position. Add NASCAR and beer. I am an American living in China and Hooters opened an outlet here, with several women from America doing the training. I went there a few weeks ago to have a couple of beers and checj the place out, and in many ways it doesn't look any different that the last one I was in, in Murphreesboro, Tennessee in 1996. The girls here sing and dance and yell "Welcome to Hooters." I asked one of them how business was doing, and she said that most Chinese people do not like the food. The girls there were actually quite talkative to me, which they were probably instructed to do. However, most Chinese love to chit chat all day long and many of these women are probably college graduates who thrive everyday to improve their English skills. I haven't eaten in there, I just went in once and had a few beers. The prices on the menu were too expensive for me, something along the lines of 60 Chinese Yuan ($7.50 USD) for a burger and fries. I can get a burger of the same quality in several places for 1/2 that much, or better yet, eat some Chinese food (which 60 RMB would buy about 6 or 7 dishes of food with beer/alcohol). How about a male place called beefcakes, with waiters in speedos, where the moscot is a long orange snake wth a throbbing head? Would this be anymore stupider than Hooters?? My problem with Hooters is that I think that it's degrading to women, and I really believe that women are equal to men. It;s seems to me too much sexualization. When I lived in Tennessee, I just equated it with stupid redneck trash culture. I was appalled when it showed up in Hangzhou.

anyone remember the South Park episode when the boys went to Raisins? That was a hilarious spoof on Hooters.

I'm going to be a real PIA. Hooters works in the South because they hire local girls/women. I've rewritten this post about a dozen times and there is no good way of putting it...Southern girls are the BEST!!

We have had restaurants with cross-dressing waitpersons for years. And restaurants with double-entendre names like "Hot 'N Hunky Hamburgers". But no speedo-wearing waiters that I know of although there once was a place across the street from my apartment run by a celebrity chef (Jeremiah Tower, alumnus of Chez Panice) called "Speedo 690" (the address was 690 Van Ness and the place used to be an auto parts store).

"I would take my young daughters to the South Blvd location in Charlotte......." They've been closed for about a year and no new one in sight down the road. Yeah, I really thought that shorts with pantyhose were cool.......NOT! How that get-up could get anyone interested or to take a second look is beyond me. I don't care how good-looking they were, panty-hose and shorts is a complete turn-off. Yuck.

I went into my first Hooter's the other day. I got some wings and a burger. The wings were eh. but OMG, the burger was to die for. I am not kidding. I got it medium rare(which is almost impossible to order around here) and it was cooked absolutely perfectly. I am sure you know-it-alls out there can tell me but do they use fresh meat? I swear it was fresh and not frozen. It was absolutely delicious. Surprised huh? me too!

I learned that the location south of Dayton in Centerville on Miamisburg-Centerville Road/OH 725 west of town closed in late July, with lack of business being the reason. Plus, other chains like BW3 and B. C. Roosters (based out of Columbus) have expanded.

Well, Hooters are few and far between in the Pacific Northwest, but everytime I go by the one in Tacoma, it's jammed-packed. The food is okay, better with beer. The outfit is tacky IMO, and the logo is lame as well.

My take has always been that it is supposed to be tacky. I don't think the girls or the customers take the get-ups seriously. It's a joke. A man who would go to Hooters looking for a meaningful relationship, or even a meaningless relationship, would have to be rather pathetic. If the food is good, that's just a plus.

Hooters is a great place. Being a female and all, I DO just go for the wings. And they are to die for - breaded and hot. But I've talked to a lot of the waitresses, and they like working there, don't find it degrading. I mean, why would you work there if you feel it's degrading. I've also had the burger, and agree that you can actually get it rare if you like. And finally, their motto is: "Delightfully Tacky, yet Unrefined". You gotta love it.

Actually Hooters locations have doubled here in Columbus, OH the last couple years. Two opened last year giving the market a total of four units. Most of their food is just..OK. The wings, when made fresh, and naked (no breading) are actually VERY good. Their mahi-mahi sandwich is also pretty good for chain restaurant fish in the landlocked midwest. My brother, friends and I go after our bowling league on occasion or when they have the $8.99 all you can eat wings on Wednesdays. I have gotten to know a few of the waitresses there and I can guarantee none feel degraded..it is not skid row or a North Korean gulag. Nobody forced them to work there and nobody forces the customers to eat there. Tacky? Yes. Demeaning. No.

I haven't been to one in a while, I miss Hooters, there was one near the racetrack so me and some friends would spend the day betting on the horses then go to Hooters for dinner. Aside from the obvious draw, the wings were terrific and I always thought it was funny that they put a little baggie of ice in your pitcher of beer.

Hooter's in Old Town Pasadena CA has just closed. They had expanded their store not too long ago, but now the entire space is for lease. What gives? Will the $700B bailout bring them back or are they TU for good? What's happening to our country?

I think bikini coffee stands have usurped Hooters in the great NW. Hey, if that Jamaican restaurant is still in business in the same building as the Tacoma Hooters, you should try it. No gimmicks, just good spicy food. Well, Hooters are few and far between in the Pacific Northwest, but everytime I go by the one in Tacoma, it's jammed-packed. The food is okay, better with beer. I admit that hooters has some interesting eye candy but I also like their wings. A friend of mine and myself always get their 24 count with their hot sauce. We always have a few left over for my ugly dog. I strip them for her as she is allowed absolutely no chicken bones. Incidentally, I never look at the eye candy Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN
