HUGE Portions in Anaheim/O.C. Thu, 01/20/05 11:21 PM (permalink)
Not sure if this place still exists...back in 88 (and again in 95) I ate at a diner-style place in Anaheim or nearby...I think on Harbour Blvd.

Their portions and desserts were absolutely IMMENSE and very tasty!! Anyone know of this place, and if it's still around?

Thanks,

Scott

You're talking about Belle Isles, C/O Chapman and Harbor, a mile south of Disneyland.

It closed down, quite a while back, to make room for an Outback Steakhouse and Joe's Crab Shack.
    PROGRESS!

      That's the Place. DAMN-IT!!

I figured when I went in '95, that would be it--but one can hope.

      Oh Well.

      Thanks for the info.

        That pink building was great!
Hot turkey sandwiches were made with half a loaf of fresh baked bread.
Their salads came in a serving bowl, with a half loaf of bread.
Their breakfast specials included a 12 egg omelete, with......!

During holidays, they baked themed cakes.
        Thanksgiving they made turkey cakes.
Not a cake with a turkey outline, but a cake that looked like a standing turkey!

But, I guess they can't compete with popcorn shrimp or a bloomin' onion!

Let me suggest a substitute to you, Johnny Reb's, which is has one of its (I think total of 3) locations in the City of Orange:

Ed Sails met me and my friends in Disneyland in early December, and then we all went there. It was heavenly. Be sure to contact Ed and see if he will come, too, when you go, as he's great company and knows Roadfood!

Believe the name was Belisles, pronounced " Bell-eye-ells".

They had the biggest strawberry pies I've ever seen.

Too bad to hear that it is now closed, but i suppose that was inevitable.

A block or two up Harbor Blvd was a carry out Mexican place called Lupe Sanchez, I believe. They were the first place that I experienced what they called a "flanksteak burrito". It was enormous and great. It was a precursor of what now are the ubiquitous steak fahitas found in most Mexican restaurants.
