I've been to a few of the sit-down Hungry Howie buffet places while visiting folks in Florida. They certainly are a good value for money, and I enjoyed my meals there. Just remember that HH is in the Dominos/Pizza Hut/Papa John's end of the chain pizza business. I don't recall seeing the flavored crust pizzas at the buffet, which is what my friends would order for delivery. Those flavored crust pizzas are good.

The calzones are good. I have never seen a buffet bar in the locations I patronize. Everything I have had was cooked to order.

Besides automobiles, Michigan has put out Domino's, Little Sleazer's and Hungry Howie's. When it comes to pizza, it be a bad example of what a pie should be. I would buy none of the big 3 in the food world.

phatphil- What part of FL are you in? Good pizza can be a hard thing to find in FL. My suggestion is to skip HH's. It's ok as domino's type pizza goes but is not "real" pizza. I grew up in NY so I know. I've also visited Chicago and they also have excellent pizza.

In the Daytona beach area I would suggest Pagano's, it's NJ style but is pretty good. Pete's pizza is the closest to NY style pizza. I also like Pizzaria Uno for deep dish. I don't know if it is like the one in Chicago because I went to Giordano's. Their stuffed crust pizza was so good. Giordano's also opened a few stores in FL and according to their website they are opening one soon in Altemonte Springs which is closer to me. Yay! http://www.giordanos.com/main.php

Red Brick Pizza is a chain, but has probably the best pizza I've had in FL. There are several in the orlando area and a few others throughout FL. http://www.redbrickpizza.com/

I also had a suggestion from one of my neighbors who told me to go to Roaring 20's Pizza and Pipes when I'm visiting the Sarasota/Ellenton area(I have family there). I have not been here yet, it's on my to do list. My neighbor says they have a huge wurlitzer organ, good pizza and an amazing atmosphere, her words. Has anybody been here? http://www.roaring20spizza.com/

The HH's by me do not have a buffet, but I have seen one in Arcadia. It actually didn't look that bad. The one's by me are just takeout stores. Cici's is ok for food when you are on a budget. They make the best brownies! Eatza Pizza is kinda like Cici's. There pizza is much better than Cici's but the rest of the buffet is just ok. And skip the desserts here. Hot banana pudding on a pizza crust is just nasty! If you have young kids they also offer a large arcade for the kids.

phatphil- Good luck on your search for good pizza! It may take a while but, there is good pizza in FL.

Try Pete's in the shopping center on Nova Road and Bevelle Avenue. I think it the Promanade shopping center. You are not going there for the atmosphere, it's a pizza joint that wins the local "Best of" most of the time.

One of my secret addictions are their steak subs..
Its like a big piece of pizza dough folded over and baked with the meat inside.
I then add L/T/O and italian dressing on it.

sorry John A. I don't see whats so great about Pauls. tried it a couple times, typical thin crust,no taste sauce average pizza.
I think Pagano's is much better for that type of pie.
for my taste I like Stavro's or Manny's.

Roossy, have to agree with you on the steak subs, but now they cost an arm & a leg!
HH is nearly in my backyard (1 block), & I usually get their "Wacky Wednesday" large cheese pizza
                                      deal for $5.55.

And they were the only place in town (long before Arby's) that had pastrami subs, which were pretty
good, but disappeared off the menu a few years back. Conveniently located next door to Movie Gallery,
or, if what you just ate didn't agree with you, King's Discount Drugs on the other side.

Yes have been to the Roaring 20's numerous times when I lived down there. Bad food but people go for the music. Frozen pizza just heated with dry crust. Kids and grandkids love the place. You have to go at least once. CDB's Pizza in the Tampa area has better pizza.

HollyDolly, avoid Fox's Pizza Den like the plague. It is pure salt with no other discernible flavors. We had one in Frederick, MD, in Steubenville, OH and here, and they are supremely nasty. I don't understand why they stay in business. Yuck!

I paid 6.99 plus tax... $7.41 the other day.. But I did notice that they had a "small" on the printed menu for $4.99, but who can get a small steak sub anyway?.....Funny, though, the small was not offered on the menu on the wall in the store..

The small sub is what I usually would get, but as part of their $5.99 lunch deal which includes a
"small" (16-20 oz.) Pepsi/Coke. And I could stretch 1/2 of it all the way to dinner!

Just my $.02: I have been eaten Fox's Pizza Den pizza most of my life and try to patronize one whenever a town I am in has one. I consider it a better product than the big 3 and better than H.H.

The sauce has a much more tomato taste to it and does not taste like it came from a frozen bag or anything. The toppings are basic and the crust (to me) is just right. If you go try a Wedgie also.
