Halloween

What's the best treat you've ever received while trick-or-treating?
 
Okay, I'll admit it.... I loved full sized candy bars.  Any kind, any brand!
 
Don't give me any apples!

 
Yup...Full-sized candy bars!  
 
And, we treat others as we used to like to be treated as kids.  We make it a habit every year to go to Costco, and buy about 10 cases of full size candy bars.  We usually get about 50-80 kids, so we buy a variety of about 250 full size bars,  and let each kid choose 3 of them.    There are always some leftovers.  ;)
 
Our house is a favorite stop for the kids..... but we also look at it as cheap insurance against getting  TP'd or egged.  LOL!
 
For variety, we usually buy Snickers, Peanut M&Ms, Baby Ruth, Kit Kat, Twix, Almond Joy, ButterFinger, and Hershey with Almonds.  Sometimes the big York Peppermint Patties, but the kids don't seem to like those.  I do!

By the way, Trick or Treating around here is always held on the 31st, no matter what day of week.   (Some areas always do it on the weekend).  Anyway, the 31st will be on Monday this year.  That lets the adults to go to our own parties on Friday and Saturday nights.

Bob always insists on full size candy bars. Luckily, my boss lets me buy a case or two just above cost.Bob also gave out hot wheels when he was an avid collector. He does it for the same reason Glenn stated-the kids leave us alone.. we had over 200 kids one year as word got out.We loved it!!
The best treat when I was young was a neighborhood woman always had us kids in for sloppy joes and apple cider.She was a widow and her grandchildren lived far away. We loved "Auntie Belle".

I turn out the lights, sit in the dark and eat my own candy!
 
The best I ever got was a $1 bill. That's when a Buck was worth a Buck! We had a rich neighbor down the street.

The best treat I had while trick or treating was at a doctors home we used to stop by in the 50's.  He always invited us in, and had loads of candy. other foods, and hot chocolate for us to eat and drink. We could pick more than one full size candy bar.  I also like when they gave out bags of Stehman's  potato chips at a place that owned the Stehman chip company.  I couldn't resist homemade 'Whoopie Pies" or money either.  Even our dogs, that went along trick or treating got "treats".

Well, the kitten was actually a treat.  He was black and white, very Halloween-ish.  So I named him Tiger.  Very imaginative for a 7-year old, huh?  Tiger lived 19 years and was a constant treat for us.  Better than any candy bar!

When I was a kid I used to love getting popcorn balls.  They where about the size of a baseball and wrapped in yellow cellophane.

My husband and I used to own a caramel popcorn stand, at 2 farmers markets. (it was in his family since 1928)  We made those popcorn balls. They are easy to make.  You only need white sugar and corn syrup, and fresh popped corn to make them.  Boil mixture with water to 300 degrees F.  You need something like gloves to manage hot syrup, or a popcorn baller. We stirred the mixture the old-fashioned way in a big copper kettle.  Making that mixture is like making old-fashioned Clear Toy candy.  We used to also make Clear Toy candy.  I still have most of the old molds for Clear Toy candy.
