Haluski

Haluski, simple comfort food from Eastern Europe. Bacon, Onions, cabbage, egg noodles, butter, S&P and granulated garlic..........We used to eat this by the bowl full as kids.
 
Cooked off some bacon, then sauteed some onions, I like then nice and brown for this dish.

Then put in the chopped cabbage and cook/brown until soft.

Boil off some egg noodles, toss with the cabbage and onions, melt in the butter, season well, top with bacon.
Easy and it's great side dish on a cold winter day.

    Tom, this could be a side that works well for Chubby's. It low cost, easy to make..........It doesn't have to bloom either, if you eat enough cabbage you will be blooming all over the place...........

    This is a dish found all over W. PA, but I've always had it with wide flat homemade egg noodles, not corkscrews.  My paternal grandmother was from Yugoslavia and she made it all the time.

    Lisa, we used extra wide egg noodles also back in the day. This is what I had on hand, Eastern Europe will have to forgive me or make some the right way and send me some. hope your doing well..........Bill

    We make it like that, but without the bacon. I sometimes add a little caraway seed, but Mrs prefers without. You can also shred a bit of apple. Again, Mrs prefers without.

    I grew up with this at least 3 or 4 times per month...  My mom would sometimes stir in some cottage cheese, and now, since I have been eating low carb, I make it with ground beef, bacon, onion, and lots of cabbage....  Not the same, but it works for me.....  I sometimes add caraway or dill if I think about it while I am making it...
