Hardees mushroom swiss burger...who's had it? Mon, 12/18/06 11:03 PM (permalink)
A friend of mine swore tonight that it was kickass. I don't know.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the last time I went there and ordered their sour dough burger and they jammed me at the drive-through by giving me a burger on untoasted, unbuttered sour dough.

Can the mushroom swiss be epic? We will see. I will try it this week. any takes?

Give us a taste test & let us know. They used to be acceptable during a lunch rush, 12 years or so back. (but NOT with the THICKBURGER thingie.)...

ALL their burgers are THICKBURGERS now, which sucks. Too much meat for one meal for me. (dr's orders) It used to be really good back in the day, but I have not tried one in at least 2 years when I first ordered one & it was a dang THICKBURGER.

So, my advice to you is: Be Hungry.

The Hardee's Mushroom & Swiss burgers are the best fast food burgers out there. I'm still bitter the Hardee's in Weirton WV closed up along with the one in Steubenville OH. I guess there was a reason for it though, but I do love the M&S burgers.

I thought the Mushroom and Swiss burger was very good at Hardee's. Their Thickburgers are available in 1/3 lb and larger versions, but I found the smallest one to be sufficient. I was surprised that the burger was served to the table when my Mom and I dined in the last time. It was a nice touch.

Has Hardee's started frying their burgers again? Did they ever quit? I swear I read that they are pre-fried and merely warmed and assembled on location. If I was mis-informed I'd like to know as I haven't tried one since I heard that.

No change, Milw. They still use their "flame tunnel".

Sorry, can't locate a pic .....go here http://www.hardees.com/menu/

Since BK ripped its version and then brought it back in a crappier form recently, I've been looking for a quality one. I have stayed away from Hardees altogether since they went the Angus Thickburger route, but was recommended this thing recently and didn't even realize they had one.

So, I gave it a shot. I hit the drive-through and though it wasn't busy at ALL, it took a good ten minute wait for them to fork it over. The longer I had to sit there and wait, the more confident I was in the quality of the burger.

It comes in a box, the burger itself in a paper wrapper to keep it from coming apart.

The damn thing has plenty of swiss, some kind of sauce, and almost too many shrooms which are packed with flavor and seasoning. The shrooms remind me a little of the kind on the Dairy Queen swiss and shroom burger.

The burger itself...THAT'S what I'm looking for ...1/3 pounder, chargrilled, not overdone, plenty of taste their although it is just a bit dry like most Hardee's burgers.

This burger does NOT require any dipping, but you should squeeze a couple mustard packets into the burger since Hardee's food has always lended itself to mustard as a primary condiment.

If this burger had a toasted, corn-dusted bun I would give it nine out of ten WOAHS!. Since it is a sesame seed bun I give it 8.2 WHOAS!

I recommend it to anyone....I'm sure Carl's Jr has the same thing.

                          Paul,

just try the slimey mushrooms in a brown goo mixed with mayo on top of a mushroom and swiss burger and you will find out what BOOGERS taste like!

I used to love those burgers, but I got violently sick after eating one about 2 years ago, and I haven't had the stomach to try one since.

For me grill the shrooms, place them on the burger, cover them with a swiss of baby swiss, and eat.

There is no mayo served on a Hardee's M&S burger.

That may have been the cause of the problem then, the brown goo sauce was mixed with a white goo sauce and both were slimey.

The white goo sauce is allegedly Swiss cheese.

The mushroom and swiss is the only hamburger at Hardees that I like (I like the spicy chicken sandwiches and breakfast biscuits)

I liked them better before they went to the thickburger. I am a good eater and I think that they are too big and the meat seems dry and bland.

BTW I looove the brown and white gooey mushroom swiss stuff on top. Nothin else like it!!

I have eaten quite a few of those through the years. I am not totally thrilled with the current meat they are using but I will get one every now and then. I do like the sauce they use for the mushroom sauce. I also get the big Hot Ham and Cheese sandwiches from there. I was kind of dissapointed that they tore our Hardees down here in town for a Walgreens. It had only been here for 11 years. Hardees used to be all over but now there is only one in the valley.

I had one of these things today. It was a little dry, but otherwise it was quite good. Meat hot; bun toasted (yes!) I hit the location in the middle of the lunch rush, so that may explain all. ()

I was a Supervisor for a Kraft Foodservice distribution center about 18 years ago - at that time we supplied all the Hardee's in Kansas & Missouri. The burgers we sent them were pre-cooked and frozen. About the only non-frozen item we sent them was the mix for their biscuits.

Now I only go to Hardee's to get Sweeney the wonder westie a burger - he likes Hardee's as much as he likes McDonalds, and Hardee;'s is closed to the house.

15+ years ago, MacDonalds in North Jersey ran a one or two week promotional mushroom swiss burger on RYE Bread Bun. Those actually tasted like they were made by a real chef in a real steakhouse and were smuggled in and put in MacDonald's packaging. Never saw them again, so I guess I was the only one who liked them!

Years ago, in the Dark Ages of the '80s, while on the way back to Hilton Head, I stopped for one in Savannah. Got it to go at the window, drove away and started to rebuild it. I always do this with fast food burgers and such because the kids who put them together frequently seem to do so in a bit of a haphazard way. Well, upon seeing this thing, we promptly turned around and went back to Hardee's. I went inside, asked for the manager and when she came to me I simply opened the thing up and asked, "Would you eat this?"
Needless to say, they made me a new one, even opened a WHOLE, NEW thing of mushroom stuff just for the purpose. I haven't had one since.

My first job was at Hardee's. The burger patties were frozen, but weren't pre-cooked. I was 15, (graduated high school in '82 at 17), so I don't know what may have happened around that window. The biscuits were another thing entirely. Remember those old ads they had with the Grandma's coming in to cook the biscuits in the early-morning, pre-dawn hours? Well, they really did. My mom and dad had grown up and gone to school with the guys who started Spartan Foods, (goodness knows that doesn't mean anything either since THAT was circa 1960-ish)...and I know things have changed all over, but that's the way it was when I was there.

LOL. I know someone who always is fussing, even in lines while ordering, that the pictures on the menus appear nothing like what you actually get. That photo was the closest I could find as a visual representation of what I actually received. It was all off-kilter, mushrooms to one side, glop of cheese to another, the meat somewhere else. There also were only about four mushrooms on the whole thing and it was all dried up and shriveled as though it'd been sitting there for a year. Ick.
