Hartford CT to Binghamton NY to Chicago to Pennsylvania to Hartford

I've wound up as the driver for my sister's college visits, so we're going to be doing a whirwind tour next week. We'll be going through across NY state along the southern border, through northern Ohio and Indiana, and then back through I-80 across Pennsylvania with a detour for Amish country. I'd be grateful for any and all suggestions, but I'm extra interested in ice-cream and bakery-type places.

Looks like the major ones are Penn turnpike, I-76 west, Ohio turnpike, I-80, I-90, I-86 and ny-17. But our router is flexible as long as we hit the right stops.
