Has anyone heard of "Dump Noodles" Sun, 11/26/06 5:48 AM (permalink)
Has anyone had any experience with a recipe of perhaps German origin that translates to "Dump Noodles".
My friend was telling me about it and he said it contains homemade noodles, onion and potato. This is then fried usually in a cast iron skillet using lard if you have it.
Appreciate any input that you might have.

You might want to try looking up a recipe for "suppeneinlage. They are more like dumplings. Also maybe spaetzles which my mom always used to make.

My Polish in laws make a similar dish, called hulski(spelling), very hearty fare. Saute chopped onions and fresh cabbage in some pork fat (bacon drippings, salt pork) until very limp and tender. Then they add cooked wide noodles, sometimes homemade, salt & pepper to taste. During Lent they omit the pork fat and use it as a main course instead of a side dish.

Sounds like Dampfnudeln, a German "pudding" that I ate after a hard day of skiing in Austria, although your recipe/description sure doesn't sound like what I used to eat. This was more of a dessert served warm with a nice vanilla sauce over the top of it.

Yours sounds more like a Roesti (potato pancakes) or Schupfnudeln which is a German noodle, often sautéed in a pan with bacon pieces and sauerkraut.
