Hash House a Go Go closes in KC

Hash House a Go Go, the trendy place that serves "twisted farm food" to the glitterati, closed in KCK earlier this month. They tried to bring their Las Vegas/LA vibe on Midwestern food to the actual Midwest, and failed miserably. They were open less than six months. We had tried to eat at the one in Las Vegas last year because of all the good reviews of it, but didn't want to wait an hour for breakfast - so we ate at the one here last month on the way home from a Chiefs game, and the food was mediocre and overpriced. The decor was like a hipster's too-cool take on the Iowa Machine Shed.

People in these parts want gigantic portions, they just don't want to pay for it. Many people don't even care if the food is mediocre if the portions are huge and the price low enough. Two friends told me dinner was very good when they went, but expensive. Another person agreed that breakfast was mediocre at best and very expensive. The whole area Hash House A Go Go was located in is over saturated with chain restaurants. I wouldn't be surprised if a few more close. But, gosh, they weren't even open 6 months!

I know in Las Vegas off the Strip they charged over $24 for a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich you can get all over in the Midwest for as little as $3.50. If they had prices like that they now know rubes show up only in Las Vegas.

I went to Hash House a Go GO at the Legends in September and wasn't impressed by it at all. The servings and the plates they were served on were huge, but the food was mediocre and the service inferior. Keith

Out by the Nascar track and Nebraska Furniture Mart. The complex is called the Legends.

They have a ton of other restaurants at that complex, including Arthur Bryan's, Cheeseburger in Paradise, Hooters, Jazz, Caliente Cuban, Dave & Busters, Johnny Carino's, Bob Evans, Applebee's. Chili's, Planet Sub, STIX, Culver's, & Ted's Montana Grill, who all appear to be doing well.

We went to Hash House in Vegas last year around New Year's, and it was decent breakfast food, though way overpriced. That makes me think of our recent bill at Harold's New York Deli in Edison, NJ for breakfast last week...though we took home enough leftovers for a small army!
