Have you ever seen someone actually gettng fired?

Have you ever gone out to eat only to have the "pleasure" of seeing an employee getting fired? I did once. My dad and I went to the now long defunct pizza place. As we ere eating ( being a Friday night the place was jammed , suddenly we start hearing all of this foul language coming from the kitchen. The manager on duty fired an employee. Anyway the employee comes out into the dining room and starts screaming "..folks I hope you are enjoying your pizza tonight, but dont be surprised if you find your food to have that extra bite. This places has roaches. Check out the collection of cans of Raid in the kitchen !!". The manager then runs out into the dining room and screams to the employee "..get the f*ck out of HERE NOW". Once the former employee left, the manager said nothing to the customers and went back into the kitchen. After watching all of this drama we deicided to take our business elsewhere as did a good many of the customers who were there that night. When I was in high school I used to work at a video store. Next door was a Dominos Pizza. I can remember quite a few times when the manager there after he would fire someone who prety much "take it outside". We saw many of fights ( both verbal and worse ) between him and the fired employee. Often in front of other customers. The manager would scream the "f" word, raise his fist and such, making a total ass of himself. This went on for the longest time until my boss at the video store called up the Dominos next door and told their manager that if they must fire people, why not do it after the other stores in the shopping center are closed as this kind of drama was "very embarrising". The woman who ran the Fantastic Sams Hair Salon on the other side of Dominos called them up and asked the same thing. Alas, the Dominos manager ( barely an adult himself )said he can fire anyone he wanted, anytime he wanted and for us mind our own business. Needless to say all of us at the video store and the girls at the Fantastic Sams, well we all had a good laugh when the Dominos manager soon found himself fired..and Dominos fired him in the parking lot.

I have a small manufacturing business, and have fired people for various reasons, including theft. But I always have tried to be discreet, and show some respect even when they don't respect themselves. One employee started to come back late, or not at all, from lunch. When he came in one morning obviously drunk, I called him into the office and said, "If you cut off a finger, I will drive you to the hospital. Right after you pee in a cup." He left and never came back. I called his wife to send her his last check, and she had not seen him for days.

I once worked at a youth center and I was eating in the main room. The offices were all around this main room and the deputy director told me that she was going to have to fire on of the coordinators and needed me to be there as a witness. It was horrible. She was a nice lady but really had no idea what to do in this field. the door to the dep. directors office was open when she called in the lady but I just stayed there in the main room having to listen to everything. I think the lady was going to cry. I was dying of humiliation adn pity as I'm sure said fire-ee was too.

Actually, I have only ever witnessed one person getting the axe and it was because they threw a penny at me that I had left on the table for very poor service as we were leaving the restaurant. After I took the penny to the mgr., she instructed the girl to get her belongings and leave. When the girl brought my salad with the wrong dressing, it took her almost 15 minutes to come back to the vicinity of our table and when she did, her response was "well your dinner is almost ready to come out, it would be pointless to bring another salad now". The dinner order was wrong also, but at that point I was too mad to eat so it didn't really matter (hence the penny tip). I must say that I did get pleasure out of seeing the snotty girl lose her job.

Several years ago I had the displeasure of firing the strongest person our company of 3K had ever had. It was entirely his fault as I had warned him to stay away from a lady that I identified as a black widow spider. She had come on to me many times. I kept her at a distance. When I put this individual in charge of this operation of around 70 employees, I had warned him to watch it and keep his distance. He did not and his relationship got to upper management and I had to term him. It was not pleasant but he handled it professionaly. Believe it or not, he is a friend to this day. Paul E. When I was a college student working in an architectural & engineering firm I learned the dangers of the "three martini" lunch so popular back in the 60's. Two of the engineers took a lengthy lunch and got back at about 2:00 PM all schnockered. The boss fired them both immediately right on floor in front of everyone. One never returned. The other one, a long term employee, did get hired back about a month later. That episode imprinted in my mind. I never drank at lunch time when on the job.

I have had to fire two people, both young girls who stole merchandise. We had them on camera and they still tried to deny it. I finally showed them the video, and they freaked out because that company is notorious for prosecuting bigtime. I actually felt bad for them, only becuase its never good to see 20 year olds bawl like a newborn complete with snot , red faced, and the need for a diaper change. I also once witnessed a hairdresser get fired, and he threw a hairdryer at the manager which injured her severely

I was let go after 14 years without so much as a thank you. One day my boss came in and said, " We have to let you go, we are "restructuring". And then he and the HR person stood there while I cleaned out my desk and handed in my company phone and keys. I was then promptly escorted off the premises like a common criminal. The one time I did go back was to give a friend of mine, who still works there, a birthday present. I stayed for about five minutes and left. Later on, I was told that as soon as I walked in, the office manager had called security to have me thrown off the property. So much for loyalty!!! Mike

I used to work in sales and during the 8 months I worked there, I saw plenty of people get fired. Some went quietly while others were practically thrown out of the office! The thing I hated was that the managers were so cocky...but didn't have an ounce of management experience...if they were good salespeople...they would just get moved up! Once there was a guy that got so fed up with everything that went on, he marched into our manager's office, slammed the door...and from what I could tell...told him what he really thought of the company...at that point the manager emerged and practically threw the guy out! Also, one of the most ridiculous stunts ever pulled...after I left this company I found out from a friend that one of the guys that was still there planned on quitting and was taking most of his sick/personal days. Apparently this guy came into the office one day visibly upset and told everyone that his father had died. When management called the father's office to get the number for the funeral arrangements to send flowers...turns out the secretary transferred management to the father's office and the father picked up the phone! I wish I could have seen the look on my former management's face! Needless to say, this guy got fired the next day! There's a great new KFC commercial that shows a waiter getting fired and then announcing to everyone in the restaurant that they can get the same thing at the KFC next door!

never seen anyone get fired myself but I have been turned down for a promotion once right in front of my co-workers. I was working 2nd shift at a factory that made car parts. An opening became available on 1st shift and I asked my boss about it during break. He went off !! "Are you married?" "How many kids do you have?" When I told him no to both, he became quite upset. Went on that ONLY those who are married and/or with kids are allowed to work to first shift. If you are single then its 2nd or third for you. Funny thing is on the flip side of this, many of those on first shift werent happy being on first and WANTED to go to third but could not because they were married. Not long after this I quit and about a year or two later, several "singles" on 2nd and 3rd and even a few "Marrieds" on first filed a suit against the factory over this policy and actually won, so now the issue of marriage cn't be used on whether one works on first, second, or third. The way it should be.

We had a guy in the office who was working on his third strike. Management had a list of complaints (internet porn, drinking, sleeping at his station with his hands on the keyboard) and were monitoring his behavior and he was being given enough rope to hang himself. We also had an office manager who had pushed the limits as well. They both got fired the same day. Now it has been acceptable in our office to have a beer or two at lunch, but our buddy was having a little too much fun. On this particular day he had to pick-up some supplies after lunch..he dined at the bar of the Dinosaur...drank a pitcher and maybe a couple shots, taking about 2-1/2 hours, then another 1/2 to get the supplies. In the meantime the office manager is freaking out and complaining to one of the partners who I'm sure has made up his mind to fire him...finally she snapped at him...and seeya!...she was gone. Then buddy boy comes back from lunch, tanked to the gills, loud and obnoxious. Two partners have gathered and decided today is the day. I'll never forget the sight...Buddy was on a phone in an alcove at the end of the hall in a personal conversation with some chick.. partners flanking the door opening with arms folded looking at the ceiling waiting for him to hang-up. They said he was a little bewildered when they sat him down...he was escorted out, locks change two passwords eliminated.. the rest of the office was quite stunned...and yet relieved to see both go.

I once got hired to be a video store clerk when I was in high school. It was a new business, and we had to paint the store, build shelves, package merchandise all with almost no instruction or supervision from the manger. He would issue his orders and disappear for the day. I got canned because I "just wasn't working hard enough" at tasks that were not even in my job description. To be honest, I wasn't the best employee, but I was working for Loser Video 12 hours a day and then going to another job. Both for minimum wage (around $2.25 an hour then) better employees got the same shrift and the only ones who became video clerks were well endowed teenage girls. I'm damn glad I didn't work hard enough.

I have had the unhappy task of firing several people. All of them very much deserved it, but that certainly didn't make it any easier.

At one time, I was a supervisor for security for a major retail developer based on Ohio (I'm not saying names). Turnover rate at my location (out of state) was low. I had to fire two people. One violated company policy regarding stopping shoplifters (we were not permitted to conduct the stop). This same person no-showed one morning. Corporate told me to fire him. When the holiday shopping season was upon us, I was in need of personnel. I rehired this person as a temporary. Another thought they were next in line for supervisor (the person before me was fired for reasons not to be discussed). They were not pleased, and that's an understatement. They tried to get me fired and failed. I fired this person because they no-showed, then got mouthy. The fact that they tried to get me fired did not factor into this. I would rather set an AC on a sloppy muddy lot with a carpeted house than go back into supervision.

I've been fired once, by one of my stepmother's relatives. She couldn't even do it to my face. Instead she called my father and had him tell me. If that happened now, all hell would have been raised, but I was 16 and what did I know? I've seen far too many people get fired in the TV news business. And far too many uncomfortable situations - ie "You're too old to be on TV". That was told to a 40 year old woman.

I've never seen anyone get fired, but I was kicked out of a supermarket once when I suggested that one of the employees should be fired. 15 years ago when I was living in New York, I went to a supermarket near my office and ordered something at the deli section. The employee gave me the wrong item and when I told her that's not what I ordered, instead of apologizing, she replied very sarcastically "oh, you don't even remember what you ordered" I asked for the store manager, and told him what happenned, he replied "if you don't like it leave" I then suggested that I'm not the one who should leave, perhaps it should be his employee he then replied, " I think you better leave now!" I left without my order and regret not calling the stores home office to complain (it was an A & P supermarket on Long Island) Eventually I moved to Seattle and learned that the customer DOEScome first and would have handled things very differently had I known that then.

I worked in sales for many years for the same large fortune 500 company. One day after a weekly sales meeting, a new sales manager called me into his office and warned me that if I continued to say things during the meetings that made the others there laugh, I'd be fired. I was fired the following week!

I read somewhere that being fired ranks third after loss of a loved one, then divorce, as most traumatic experiences.
