Having trouble finding a good location Tue, 01/17/12 2:32 AM (permalink)
I have done a lot of home work with the hot dog cart business. The one thing that I lack is a good location or locations. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can start. I am willing to put in some really hard work to make this happen. I am considering bidding on a location in the downtown area when it comes up but that will not happen until October sometime, so I will need to do something in the meantime.

When you say "having trouble" what does that mean. You cant find a location at all or getting turned down when you find what you think is a good location. Have you setup at any location? If so how long weher you there and type of location? What is your idea of am good location? Have a daily money goal in mind?

Need a little more background and then can help more.....

I have tried side of road around construction sites. I will stay at a place for at least a week so I dont think I am jumping arouns or maybe that is not long enough. ( have not made any profit on the road side)
I have tried Home depots but they are pretty locked up.
I would like to bid on a city corner when it comes up but not sure exactly how that goes.

i guess i am not looking for a specific number I am just looking to start making some money. i know that once i am established and people can see who I am and what I serve the repeat clients will come.

I have a few events that are pretty profitable that I have done and they want me back.
i have considered some of the smaller Fair grounds in other counties but would like some input on that if you have any.

      thank you for your reply

im just curious as to how much research you did prior to getting into this business?  It takes weeks (3-5) minimum to build up a spot and see if it's profitable. No home depot will let you " just " set up or even give you permission to sell on their property. They are locked down mostly by a company you have to pay to get on their property.

I spent about a year prior to purchasing my cart. I understand about the home depots, If the spot is profitable I would pay to be in a good location. Your right, maybe I need to stay longer at a site than just a week. Itv was just very concerning to me. There were some days that thousands of cars would pass and not one customer.

I went to my local swapmeet even though they had a food vendor doing Mexican Food and she has hamburgers $5 each well I showed the owner pictures and they said yes to me I will be in my local swapmeet in about two weeks (length of time for city and HD to do permits) I drove an hour away and set up out front of a Flea Market and you will need to stay in those areas for more then a week and also you will need to pass out flyers to local Non Food buisnesses so they will know they can have a food choice............
