Has anyone here had any luck trying to do healthier choices? We do a good salad business but only if we put some sort of meat on top of it! Tried chick salad and tuna salad over the summer and went no where with it. Yet all I read is how people are looking for healthier choices. Just wondering what your experiences have been.

People say they are looking for healthier choices. They don't buy them. When I mention that I used to buy the celery sticks at McDonald's, the response was usually, "Oh, you're the one!"

Try putting grilled chicken, grilled fish, thinly sliced grilled flank steak or grilled shrimp on top of a salad.  You don't have to put a ton on top........but enough to make it not just a plain salad.

Salads have been a flop, maybe one for every 40 customers until we pulled them off the menu.  A real bummer because that's what I usually eat.
Some success, like 5 per 40 with vegetarian sandwiches.
Same with Gluten free, maybe 1 per 50 wants GF bread.

I had trouble selling the healthier stuff too. Had a couple cool salads (take on green papaya, a quinoa salad) and neither sold to save a trees life. I do have a relatively healthy cornmeal crusted avocado taco with veggie quinoa, miso special sauce and roasted tomato salsita and it sells really well. With corn tortillas its GF so it's all in one superstar when it comes to that. Otherwise no one wants anything to do with healthiness.

people don't want grease dripping, heart attack on a plate when they mean healthy except maybe in Callie.
otherwise state fairs would be in trouble.
