Hello, I am Nick and I am in the process of writing a business plan for a breakfast and lunch restaurant. I am currently living and working in Chisinau Moldova as a teacher. I grew up in the restaurant biz, but they have all passed (the ones who owned) so asking family is out. I have worked for some really talented(Rich) restaurantures in my day. I have a degree in business, and plan on using it. We (my wife and I) are looking at living aboard for another couple of years, and then returning to the States to start a business. When I was in college I was fortunate enough to get to do the business plan for a restaurant that was really run very smooth and efficiently. I got to see a lot the their best practices and understand how they make it. I am thinking of a breakfast and lunch place with a limited menu and the idea of becoming the not so greasy spoon that everyone goes to a couple times a week, and catering lunches, and maybe more. This site seems like a great place to post questions and read battle tales. Cheers, Nick

Returning to the states? At the rate we are going here I doubt that there will be much to return to, especially in regards to starting a business, of any kind.

This is true, but I have faith in the capitalist pigs of America, they are the ones who made the country great, and will bring it back( I hope). As a side note there are a lot of people here in Moldova who remember the good old days of the Soviet Occupation( as it is called by some) exit poles just showed the pro EU party just won the parliament. There is a great labor pool here who are highly educated, but have a really hard time finding work, 25% of the pop. is abroad working. I want to start some sort of service business while I am here. So hopefully I will have a remitence coming in to fund a restaurant one day. Yes the state of the US economy is scary.

Getting scarier by the day as January 1st quickly approaches, which will see taxes and a record number of costly regulations raise their ugly head in the name of free health care. And from recent votes in the senate, the repubs did not get the message that was sent on Nov 2nd. Honestly, I think we are screwed... Roughly 20% unemployment in my area and climbing. So how is the weather there and do they have beer?

So how is the weather there and do they have beer? Its -3c and snowing, the beer sucks but, I have just inherited a brew set-up from a guy that left. So it should not be too long until some good beer. Also it is common practice to distill your own spirits, I bought a still! I am waiting on some ingredients from England to make some mead, I have yet to find suppliers for Malted barley and hops. I guess the left did not really think about the cost of "free" health care. The more I think about it, I should start a brew pub here, that is a goal 5-10years from now.
