Help Identify the film and the Actors, Please!

OK, I am sure I am not the only one who has the title and/or starring roles of a film on the tip of his tongue, and just can't quite bring the answer out into the open. Help me please. The film deals with a young boy who is dumped on his two uncles by his low-morals Mother as she heads out to 'find her future' in AZ and Vegas etc. The two uncles tell what seem to be tall tales of their adventures in WWI and the Foreign Legion between the wars. Many stores of gold and sheiks and treasure etc etc, in between the stories are incidents of action that take place on their farm. They buy a Lion to shoot, but the boy winds up saving it. I thought one of the stars was Richard Gere, but I was wrong. The two old guys wind up flying a Biplane into their Barn (inverted) to "Go out in style". One of you movie buffs please help me with this title...It's driving me nuts!!

Secondhand Lions is the type of movie that is enjoyable every time you watch it. IMO, most movies that Robert Duvall is in are that way. Coincidence? I doubt it. I've watched Tender Mercies at least six times. If it's on the tube, I watch it. Secondhand Lions is the same way.

Don't know how many times I've watched "Animal House" & "The Blues Brothers" as well any Clint Eastwood Westerns AND "Dirty Harry's".

Secondhand Lions didn't get good box office, but made its name on the secondary market. It got mixed reviews, scored 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, and grossed 42M (US) on a budget of 30M. It got great word of mouth, though, and has since done well on the secondary market of BluRay, DVD, Netflix, etc. We saw it in the theater when it came out, and we loved it. It's not perfect, but it tells a great story.
