Help me find a butcher in Milwaukee

I need help from anyone who cooks in the Milwaukee area. I live fairly centrally (east side of Wauwatosa) & work in Brookfield. I was a regular at Hank & Charlie's...oldest butcher shop in town until they went out of business a couple of weeks ago. I'd like to find a good butcher to develop a new relationship with. I'd rather not rely on the supermarkets or even the high end markets (Sendiks, etc...). I want my butcher to know me. I tried Bunzel's (down the street from hank & Charlie's) a couple of years ago when I moved into this part of town, and was not impressed. I'm hoping there are still some small butcher shops in town that might fit the bill.

How about Ray's? I think they're in Greenfield. I'll check and get back to you.

Angelina's Deli ??? 15655 W. North Ave. | Brookfield, WI 53005 Phone: 262-938-9038 I stopped there for some very good sausages but to be honest did not even check out the meat department (and if they even have one). Ray's is very good but not very close to your home or work locations. Can you still get a hold of Hank or Charlie and find out where they will now go and buy their meat? I had heard good things about Bunzel's, perhaps you caught them on an off moment. If you don't mind a little drive, check out Rupena's on 76th & Beloit; top notch butchers that will work with you.

Grasch Foods on North Avenue in Brookfield is where I purchase my meat and seafood. The quality is as good as any top restaurant. Their prices are a bit higher then the "Pig," but you get what you pay for. Ask for Mike or Kenny and tell them Mark, Vienna Beef hot dog guy sent you. www.graschfoods.com CSD

Thansk for the input. I used to live in Rupena's neighborhood and they were pretty good. I've been a regular at Angelina's since they opened...great sandwiches (great Friday fish sandwich!!!), great sausages, but not much of a meat department. I also used to buy my produce at Grasch, but never tried their meat department. Unless I get any better suggestions I will seek out Mike or Kenny. Thanks Mark.

Hi Kools, First off I apologize for your experience that you received at Bunzel's a couple years ago. My name is Dan Bunzel. My father opened Bunzel's Superette/Meats in 1976. That store was located on 59th & Hadley (Appleton). Almost 24 years later we closed the store off of Appleton to open our store at the current location on 84th & Burleigh. My father along with my brother, Chip, currently own and operate Bunzel's and both are equally disappointed to read your comments. We take pride in everything that we do. We take it personally if you do not receive a favorable experience at Bunzel's or if you do not feel that the quality of product and or service is outstanding. I also know for a fact that Chip goes the extra mile to get to know his customers. He encourages all his employees to do the same. I hope that you are still looking for a hometown old fashioned butcher shoppe - If you are please give us another try. Make sure you ask for Chip. I guarantee you will walk away impressed. We know you will agree that Bunzel's is different. It has to be because we want you as a customer for years to come. Sincerely, Dan quote:Originally posted by kools I need help from anyone who cooks in the Milwaukee area. I live fairly centrally (east side of Wauwatosa) & work in Brookfield.
