Herkimer, NY

We will be in Herkimer, NY for a day and half. Any suggestions for Roadfood establishments in or around the area. We we will be leaving from Easterchester, NY (still working on route) any suggestions for great breakfast or lunch spots along the way would also be highly appreciated.

Check out Crazy Otto's Empire Diner! Pretty good breakfast, cool old restaurant.

Thanks...I did see the reviews for Crazy Ottos on Yelp. Kind of odd hours (open till 4:00) but this will probably work for breakfast/lunch on our way out of town.

mousec, if you go to the homepage and type Herkimer, NY into the city search engine, it'll give you the 25 closest RF-reviewed spots.  I'd recommend Tom Cavallo's in New Hartford or Voss' BAR B Q in Yorkville for lunch, Holland Farms Bakery & Deli (just down the street a 1/4 mile from Voss' but not RF-reviewed yet!) for jelly buns and half moon cookies for the road.

Not sure how much time you have to get to Utica/New Hartford but here is one of my trip reports that includes the above three places:  http://www.roadfood.com/F...a-Rome-NY-m709016.aspx

Wafa's, Eddie's Sweet Shop and Nick's Pizza in Forest Hills are all really good.
Sripraphai in Woodside for Thai food.

A trip report from 2008 with pics from Sripraphai and Eddie's:  http://www.roadfood.com/F...Queens-NY-m400169.aspx

And on page 3 of this report, about 3/4 of the way down are pics of Nick's pizza and calzone.  The calzone was fantastic!  http://www.roadfood.com/F...rest+hills&mpage=3

Sorry, no pics of Wafa's but here is their website:  http://www.wafasfood.com  My great friends Doug & Marisa used to live in Forest Hills, we'd run together training for races and run by many of these places and being like-minded we sampled our share of restaurants.  Wafa's used to be in a tiny storefront and made some seriously great Lebanese food.  I've been to the new location once and really liked it but that was a few years ago.

Moving on to Brooklyn. Any thoughts on L&B Spumoni Gardens? I love me some Sicilian slices.

D'oh!  Sorry I never replied to your Brooklyn question, mousec.  Love, love, love L & B!!  I've gone out of my way a few times for those Sicilian slices and that spumoni.  Need to explore Brooklyn some more as I'd like to do a Roadfood tour there, maybe in the spring...
