Hill Country Shootout:Leander Tx Hosts Final Barbecue Test Before Meridian's National Cham Wed, 10/12/11 10:22 PM (permalink)

This is one of the big ones y'all. If your barbecue cook team expects to rack up enough points to be invited to the State Championship in Meridian Texas this is your last chance to show and prove.
This Saturday October 15th 2011 we'll be judging this event so we're going to go ahead and stop eating now [it's Wednesday].
This is so we can power through all the categories: Brisket, Pork Ribs, Chicken, Chef's Choice, Sauce and Beans.
Expect the grounds of the VFW Lodge 10427 in Leander to be filled with barbecue loving folks starting Friday October 14th in the evening when country music fans line up to listen to music by Sounds of Texas.
Saturday morning sweet blue smoke will be rolling off the pits as the cook teams vie for $600 in cash prizes.
The VFW has a bar for your drinking needs but if you prefer you can stroll around outside chatting with the pit bosses and bring your own cooler.
We plan on drinking plenty Pearl beer while we converse with these gentlemen.
Hope to see y'all out in Leander this Saturday

I'll gladly drag my happy butt out of Georgetown for that event. Last good bbq cook-off I was able to attend was the Taylor invitational some years back. I am thinking of retiring soon and "She Who Must Be Obeyed" has suggested I find another area of interest lest I meet an untimely demise. I think cooking BBQ is an undertaking that I could get into and cookoffs are a good place to start.
