We will be going to Hilton Head next month and would like to try some local restaurants. We are open for anything, nothing fancy, we will have our three children with us.

I believe you'll have more luck finding the Roadfood kind of joint off Hilton Head Island. Try nearby Bluffton, for BBQ South Carolina style, or seafood. A little further afield, Blackstone's Cafe in Beaufort (this town is worth a side trip, see if you can find the house where they filmed the Big Chill and The Great Santini). On or near Edisto Island, Po-Pig's BBQ is good,The Edisto Beach Cafe (see today's restaurant of the day at the home page)for a shrimpburger, and the Old Post Office Restaurant is truly excellent, but maybe a little fancy to be mentioned here.

If you're going by way of Charleston, there are some good places to eat between there and Hilton Head, including the very eccentric (and very wonderful)Fishnet Seafoods.

Ditto to pkfolly re: Po-Pigs and the stupendously good Old Post Office Restaurant. (If they have their oyster skillet on the menu, dive into that! And you know they have grits!)

Try the Salty Dog Cafe at South Beach, the Hilton Head Diner, CQ's (great food for you, but not so fussy for the kids), The Upper Crust for pizza - just off the island, and if you're really gutsy, go to Tapas. Make sure you go early so that the kids won't get squirmy, but they serve all their entrees in appetizer portions. The idea is to order in 4-5 "rounds" so that you get to try different things. The best overall suggestion that I would give you is to pick up a Menu Guide as soon as you get to the island. It lists most of the restaurants and their menus, prices,... Don't bother with Hudsons or the Crazy Crab. They are over-rated, over-priced, and none of the locals go there. Be sure to go see Gregg Russell at Harbour Town if he's performing while you're there.

I don't have a specific suggestion, but be aware that Savannah GA is really close by ... so do some research on that area too before you go.

Go to Pepper's Porch in Bluffton-food is great and it's casual there so kids would be ok. If you like wings we always go to Wild Wing Cafe at HH Island. I thinks there's like 25 ways to order wings and they have sapmpler platters and lots of others sandwiches etc.

If you like barbecue and ribs try Dosido's. It's right off the island at the shops by Moss Creek plantation. Pizza is definately Guiseppies (sp?) It is the one at Shelter Cove Plaza and is great. It really gets crowded, but is worth the wait or you can go early .
