Holiday Magazine Dining Awards

Suspect this may be a little bit on the opposite end of the spectrum from most RF spots we all search for. However, does anyone know whatever happened to the Holiday magazine Dining Awards that were given annually for 30 years or more by the magazine for the top restaurants in the country? Examples of some of the restaurants that appeared in the annual rating for every year it was published were Commander’s Palace in NOLA, Maisonette in Cincy, Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach, Canlis in Seattle and the Four Seasons in NYC. Not all of these, of course, are appropriate for each and every road trip, but who would argue w/ the merits of Commander’s Palace when discussing some of the best food you’ve ever eaten? Not being from Florida originally (grew up in Illinois), I remember nearly having an out-of-body experience the first time I tried stone crabs at Joe’s Stone Crab back in the ‘70’s. I believe restaurant owners coveted their inclusion among the “best of the best” and proudly displayed a little plaque to that effect, usually right where you came in the front door. I’m not sure the magazine is still published and, if it is, do they still do the dining awards? Can anyone help shed any light on this? QFan Bonita Springs, FL

Interesting question. I had forgotten about the HOLIDAY magazine awards. Is that now the Travel Holiday magazine? I do not think they give annual awards. I always look at the yearly Wine Spectator list now. I would say it is about the same as the Holiday magazine awards.
