Hood Question Wed, 06/22/11 11:25 PM (permalink)
So I have acquired a 4' x 5' and a 3' x 14' hood both with fire suppression. Anyone have any tricks on removing these (they are currently installed)? I have an HVAC guy meeting me tomorrow for a price quote on removal but I am debating on doing it myself.

don't know what kind of suppression system you got but mine you can turn the valve off at the bottle and then unhook the system,,, but be sure to check that out with a better source than me...

one extra set of hands for the small one, and probably two extra for the large one, it wont weigh much, but will be awkward as all hell......
some simple hand tools and a couple of short ladders and you should be in business!!
you going after the whole vent system as well, or just the hoods and fans ?

put the third set up on the roof pulling the fans while you and the second set remove the small one.... #3 should be about ready to come down once your ready for the large one..... should be in and out in about an hour

Would one of these be suitable for a food truck? I am sure the size is not enough info, what info would you need to know if it would work?

oohh i dont see why it wouldnt work...... may want to cut down the front of the unit to 4 inches or so due to the low clearance in trucks trailers....
depends on how big the fan units are as well...... here in NC we have to stay under 13' for clearance reasons, your state may be different.....

you would loose some of the customized aspects using a building unit in your truck/trailer..... but they are basically the same animal, no real differences

The 4' x 5' is probably good for a trailer depending on your ceiling height like other have said. It also depends on the size of your appliances under it. I had one custom built with a short front that is 4' x 4' that runs a full restaurant size fan on the roof. That thing creates so much air flow you don't need AC in the trailer and best thing is that no grease gets anywhere but inside the hood like they are meant to.
