Horrible food combinations

Michael Hoffman was the inspiration of this topic with his Peanut Butter and Onion sandwich, I added it needed Crisco and Blue Cheese. Lo and behold a new topic is born! How about fried banannas with beef gravy and fried eggs and tunafish casserole? Watcha got?

OMG peanut butter and onion! Now that's a HORROR!! The only way to eat peanut butter is with syrup.

I think not. I was merely commenting on the horrible food combination.

I like cream cheese on bagels with red horseradish. I used to eat sandwiches made of creamed cheese and minced black olives.

I knew someone who would order fried eggs, over easy and stir in grape jelly. Sickening.

I must have told this story around here somewhere, but it bears repeating. I used to play cards with a group while I was at college. Usually, at some point during the game, someone would go out to a nearby sandwich place, which had a detailed price list so that you could pretty much ask for any combination of any ingredients they had, and the clerk would know what to charge. This also meant that you could have pretty much any kind of combo you liked (my two favorites were a corned beef, swiss and sauerkraut (similar to a Reuben) on hero with Thousand Island dressing, and turkey, prosciutto and provolone with lettuce, tomato and mayo on hero (I called it an "Italian club"). When I first came there, I asked for a burger with "everything", and the clerk asked me, "Do you REALLY want grape jelly on it?" However... The players were expected to tell the person who was buying the sandwich EXACTLY what they wanted. So, when one evening, one player said, "Bring me anything.", the buyer, expecting to teach the player a lesson, came back with a peanut butter, pickle and mustard sandwich on hero. The upshot: That became that player's standard order. Bart

I asked my weekend cook to serve Lasagna for their special one day. I asked him what he would serve with it for side dishes. His answer was, corn and French fries, that was the last time I asked him to run a special, just follow the menu......................Bill

In his book The Frugal Gourmet Cooks American Jeff Smith describes a peanut butter and sardine sandwich. I don't think I could bring myself to make one of those much less eat it!

the ancient mariner I thought I was bad mixing Cheerios and Special K. Your posts are always so moving. CTF, I was actually going to suggest this to you as something for the restaurant: last week my 18-year-old topped some mashed potatoes with taco-seasoned ground beef and Kraft Creamy Poppyseed Dressing. Put it on your menu and it'll be like you have a license to print money. Brad
