Horrible food combinations Sat, 01/8/11 1:41 PM (permalink)
Michael Hoffman was the inspiration of this topic with his Peanut Butter and Onion sandwich, I added it needed Crisco and Blue Cheese. Lo and behold a new topic is born!
How about fried banannas with beef gravy and fried eggs and tunafish casserole?
Watcha got?

The only way to eat peanut butter is with syrup.

I think not.  I was merely commenting on the horrible food combination.

I like cream cheese on bagels with red horseradish.

I used to eat sandwiches made of creamed cheese and minced black olives.

I knew someone who would order fried eggs, over easy and stir in grape jelly.  Sickening.

I've never had cream cheese with horseradish, red or white, but I love cream cheese and (sliced black) olive sandwiches on rye.

I must have told this story around here somewhere, but it bears repeating.

I used to play cards with a group while I was at college. Usually, at some point during the game, someone would go out to a nearby sandwich place, which had a detailed price list so that you could pretty much ask for any combination of any ingredients they had, and the clerk would know what to charge. This also meant that you could have pretty much any kind of combo you liked (my two favorites were a corned beef, swiss and sauerkraut (similar to a Reuben) on hero with Thousand Island dressing, and turkey, prosciutto and provolone with lettuce, tomato and mayo on hero (I called it an "Italian club"). When I first came there, I asked for a burger with "everything", and the clerk asked me, "Do you REALLY want grape jelly on it?"

                      However...
The players were expected to tell the person who was buying the sandwich EXACTLY what they wanted. So, when one evening, one player said, "Bring me anything.", the buyer, expecting to teach the player a lesson, came back with a peanut butter, pickle and mustard sandwich on hero. The upshot: That became that player's standard order.

I could do without that combo.
In College there was a guy in my freshman class we nicknamed the Pear, he would walk down the hall munching on a stick of butter.

Every year at the Holidays I make a spread of cream cheese and olives, everyone loves it and asks for it.

I asked my weekend cook to serve Lasagna for their special one day. I asked him what he would serve with it for side dishes. His answer was, corn and French fries, that was the last time I asked him to run a special, just follow the menu......................Bill

In his book The Frugal Gourmet Cooks American Jeff Smith describes a peanut butter and sardine sandwich.   I don't think I could bring myself to make one of those much less eat it!

A smoked oyster on a saltine, w/ sour cream, and a nacho sliced pickled jalapeno. One of my fav snacks. I eat the whole can that way.

How about a Chocolate Sundae with canned salmon and parsnips on top.

Here is the recipe for a chocolate and parsnip combination:

And here is one for chocolate and salmon:

And here are two with salmon and parsnips:

I guess you'll just have to come up with your own recipe to get all three ingredients!

Make that a small fillet of wild Chinook instead of canned salmon and I could go for it.
