I just read in the local fish wrapper that a plague of Five Guys franchise places is about to descend upon us in the Columbus area. According to the franchisee, there'll be at least 20 of them here soon.

What's next on the horror meter? Another attempt by Backyard Burgers?

That would be nice. I sure would like to have one closer than seven miles.

Can't help ya Pot, you will have the 5 guys to wrestle with all
by yourself. I am a one on one man myself. I took up track
in high school for that very reason.

I no longer wrestle. Too damned old and decrepit. Although, I'd be glad to take on five guys with a tire iron in my hands.

Just ignore them Michael, Like you do the other places that don't measure up to your standards. Maybe they will take some of the cars off the Columbus streets for awhile!!

Although Five Guys are not my favorite, they sure do deliver an above the average burger and deliver way too many hot fries in a bag.

Everything is cooked to order and I have enjoyed each visit I have had.

I have only eaten at Five Guys three times. I liked it. For me it was like eating a 4-way. You know you shouldn't be eating it often and you may pay for it later, but it tastes great on the way down. 5- Guys is 35 miles away. I will go back soon
                .
Someone is going to add 10 new 5-guys stores in the Tampa Bay area. I hope they put one closer to my home. (w/in 5 miles. No closer.) I also hope that they don't follow in the footsteps of the Krispy Kreme debacle. The franchisee's in Columbus and Tampa are not individuals but large corporations with big bucks. They want to be the next MCD's. I hope they don't ruin a nice place to get a burger.

                  Mr. Hoffman,
At least you can still make the reasonable drive to Urbana - it's 500 miles for me.

I wish I could have taken you to the original 5 Guys around 20 years back when they were located next door to Brenner's Bakery who made the rolls, and before they caved in to the health police with their "well done" policy.

We don't have any here in San Antonio or the surrounding area. HOWEVER, Carl's Jr. is making a comback here as they have the building up atthe corner of Nacodoches Road and O'Conner.
There is also further down at Nacodoches and Thousand Oaks a Java Joe's.

They've got a passel of 'em opening up or opened up in this area...even one in my township, although I haven't driven over that way yet to see if it's opened. I heard it's good if the food is fresh and hot and not laying around. I'll try it and see if it's any good. I noticed that the one in my township is or will be across the street from a Fuddrucker's that's been there over 20 years.

Never heard of the Five Guys before this. I see there's one in the far far suburbs of Milwaukee. But given the great burgers here in town, I doubt I'll make the trip to try them.
I do find it interesting their menu stresses "little" burgers rather than the traditon el humungo burgers. Is this a White-Castle-oid line?

No. I would estimate that the 5 Guys patties are about 4-5 oz. The "Little" means a single patty. The regular hamburger has two patties.

FYI, for comparison, a regular McDonald's hamburger patty (also used in the Big Mac) is 1.6 oz.

While living in Arlington, VA I was a patron of their original store - a walk up in a strip center on the NE corner of Glebe Road and Columbia Pike. I enjoyed their food then and I look forward to enjoying it again in their first Dallas location: facing the indoor ice rink at the Galleria.

Taking on that kind of rent, their cojones must be heavier than their four-way double burger!

Okay, that, followed by redtressed's little star-spangled baton routine in the courthouse square, would be a perfect Fourth of July set of entertainments. Sex and violence!
