I buy Hostess cherry pies from time to time, and occasionally they have cherries in them.

Having lived in NY/NJ all my life I can say I've never even heard of Hostess Blackberry Pies. It was always cherry or apple and on rare occaisions blueberry. Either one with enough sugar to make your teeth fall out of your head, but oh, so good! Still see hostess in Wawa (NJ) sometimes. It seems as though Drakes is pretty much out of the small pie biz, years ago they cheaped out and started making Cherry/Apple pies. They were basically apple pies with red food coloring . . . and they sucked.

Wow, I assumed Hostess was something sold coast to coast. Here I am surrounded by Hostess and seldom buy them, though they are tempting. They seldom have much real fruit to them anyway. How about Dolly Madison?

As I have posted on other threads, Hostess, Dolly Madison, and even Drake's are all the same company: Interstate Bakeries Corporation http://www.interstatebakeriescorp.com/brands.html I can't remember seeing a blackberry pie here in the midwest, so it must be a "left coast" flavor. Apple and cherry seem to be everywhere, we get blueberry, peach and strawberry on a rotation basis, and chocolate and lemon on a rotation basis. It has been a while since I have seen raspberry. And yes, in all of the fruit flavors there is more "syrup" than fruit. (How do you expect them to make a profit?)

Thanks for that link, 6star. If benslady comes back after her one and so far only post, she can get the information that she wants. I know from experience that it takes some time to learn to use this site. Every regular here started with a single post. Welcome benslady. I had a cherry Hostess pie yesterday, Atkins be damned, and it was good.

Blackberry is by far the best Hostess fruit pie flavor. When you visit us here in the west, have one for dessert after you try In-N-Out Burger.

Apple, cherry, pineapple, lemon, blackberry, strawberry, French apple these are the only flavors advertised on the Hostess website. What happended to blueberry? Blueberry was definately my favorite as a kid. (Admittedly, I haven't has a hostess pie in quite a few years.)

Also, did Zingers switch from Hostess to Dolly Madison? The website has Zingers as a Dolly Madison product, but I always though Zinger was sold as a Hostess product when I was a kid. It's amazing how many brands IBC represents. Thank goodness they haven't bought out Freihofers yet! wait a minute. just checking out Freihofer's on the web. And, Freihofer's is a part of a large bakery company too! They are apparently now ties to the George Weston Bakeries, who provides Entenmann's, Boboli, Thomas's and more. Ugh!

In addition to apple, cherry, lemon and strawberry, we get blueberry, peach and chocolate here periodically. (Usually the blueberry, peach and strawberry rotate during the year.) In fact, I have sent blueberry and peach to several Roadfooders who have been willing to pay the cost of the pies plus the shipping charges (for your address for about 10 pies, it would cost about $14 for second-day shipping or about $7 for ground shipping which could take more than 4 days). If you are interested, e-mail me at my profile address and I will check to see what flavors are currently available. By the way, as I have mentioned before on threads, Hostess and Dolly Madison are both owned by IBC and we get both labels sold here in some stores and have bakery outlet stores for both labels.

Okay, I know this was an old thread, but I've been looking for a Hostess Berry Pie vendor for quite a long time. BTW, there IS no other off-the-shelf pie in my book. Hostess Berry. That's it. Before the internet, back in 83, I called all over the nation looking for them. Hostess finally shipped me a case free of charge -- while I was on vacation, so they sat on my porch in the Houston sun for two days. They were still good tho! Just thought about it again today and did the search. So thanks for the link. I can taste them artificially flavored berry morsels right now! Num!

They used to sell them in Texas when I was a kid, but I don't see them anymore. Occasionally, I will run across one (and it's always only one) in Louisiana. Interesting that some are calling it Blackberry. Here, it was always just "Berry," kind of a mystery what kind of berry it might be. Reminded me more of dewberry (a Southern berry that usually grows along the railroad tracks, plumper and juicier than blackberries - not that the Berry pie is much in the way of a natural product.)

You're right! "Berry!" Almost never got to eat them but I remember fruit pie the magician (one of the lamest corporate mascots ever) reciting "Cherry, Berry, Apple." I'm guessing that would have been early-mid 70s. Prior to that they may have had more flavors (I'm thinking there was once a blueberry, but I could have been mistaken).
