Hot Dog Johnny's Sat, 06/18/05 1:46 PM (permalink)
[/font=AriaHello,

I am new to this forum and formerly from Northern New Jersey. I now reside in the mountains of north central PA. A beautiful area, but they do not have any of the great hot dog joints that I remember in Jersey. Specifically, I am trying to find out what brand of hot dog is used by Hot Dog Johnny's of Buttzville, NJ. Does anyone know the brand and or distributor they use?

Regards,
mkuca

Unless this information has changed in the last two years, I'm pretty sure that John Fox won't mind if I quote him about Hot Dog Johnny's:

    quote:
The dogs are from Schmalz's Provisions (I know the owner) and are a quality dog if grilled or deep fried. Not boiled or steamed. A pork based dog isn't good this way. Even a spicy, kosher style all beef dog is better grilled. I think the main attraction of Hot Dog Johnny's is the setting and atmosphere. The dogs are mediocre.

      Hello shaynas_mom,

Thanks for the information, I am researching different hot dog stands I remember, as I am thinking of opening a place within the next year. Hot Dog johnny's dogs are different from many other stands and I always wondered who supplied them.

I thank you for the info and John Fox also.

I remember Haydu franks from Old Heidelberg in Keansburg, NJ. Those were great! I can think of many different stands that served many different brands, some better than others. It is my hope that I can find a really exceptional hot dog that is quality, tastes great, and keeps people coming back for more. The brands they serve and eat here are the blandest in the world. I would like to show them what a real hot dog tastes like.

      regards,
      mkoca

          Hello alexfeild,

Thanks for the info on Johnny-O's in Oxford. I'll make it a point to stop and try them when I am back in Jersey.

          regards,
