"Hot Dog King" to introduce 1/2lb Hotdog

The Westward Ho in Las Vegas had a 3/4 lb dog for 99 cents a couple of years ago. Cut in half to fit on to fit on a plate and smothered with chili and cheese ($.39 ea) was the kickoff to every Vegas visit.

Yes. It gets people in the door. In a casino, f&b doesn't have to be profitable.

Personally large Hot Dogs just dont work for me. By the time the outside is cooked properly the inside never reaches the proper taste or texture. Especially when coney sauce is added. Chicago Style dogs made with large hot dogs are not a good thing. Judging condiments for a regular Hot Dog is easy. Large Hot Dogs impossible. I will take two regular ones over a big one any day. Just my opinion...Russ

I'm with you Russ on a 1/2 pounder being just too big. Size matters! When the insides of the dog are only warm and not steamy hot the moisture in the meat has to hit a certain temperature to cause the compcted beef to "Properly Plump". Even the best all-beef dogs taste greasier because the water is still trapped in the meat and dosen't mix properly with the fat to create that juicy texture.

You always have to maintain that delicate meat-bread-condiment ratio and serve it at the proper temperature for the dog to be truly exceptional.

Alice Cooper's Cooper'stown Restaurant near the D Backs Ballpark in Phoenix features a two foot long, 3/4 pound dog called "The Big Unit", named in honor of Randy Johnson. Rumor has it he modeled for the pictures that were used in the development of the product!!!
