Hot Dog Tour Sat. Sept 17th - North Jersey

Hello all ,

The " Hot Dog Nation" posters on the Hot Dog section of the forums have decided to organize a Hot Dog Tour for Northern New Jersey on Sat Sept 17th .

Date : Sat. Sept 17th

Meet: Galloping Hill Inn , Union NJ

We will have an air conditioned School Bus that originates in Orange County NY for those from the north wanting to meet there first.

Bus will than travel to Galloping Hill Inn and start the tour of area Hot Dog Establishments

Locations TBA in a few weeks by John Fox .

Anyone that may be interested in joining us , most who will be posters on these forums , feel free to email me or let me know on the forum.

We can hold 40 on the bus .

Hello Sonjab ,

We do not have a pick up location in Orange County NY yet . For Mapquest it will either be Newburgh or Middletown area .

This is for those north of Jersey who do not want to drive all the way to Galloping Hill Inn.

For every one else the pickup location , you have the address .

Payment details are on page #4 of Hot Dog Tours 2005 in the Hot Dogs, Sausages and Brats section.

Today's NYTimes has an article on the poet, August Kleinzhaler who is a native of Ft Lee, NJ. He was interviewed at "Hirams", apparently a hot dog joint, in Ft Lee. The punch line of the story is, "Mr Kleinzhaler... held up his hot dog and surveyed it. 'This, he said, is a beautiful thing.' "

Anyone know anything about Hirams?

And , why not try to recruit the poet for our September Hot Dog Tour? - Might add some class to the affair...

We will have all the class we need if you are bringing Gail on the tour!

We are able to go! Whew....long story, but we almost could not. Will check out the payment details etc. Not sure if it will be better for us to meet the bus at the starting point or meet up at the Galloping Hill and go from there.

I'd love to make the trip but we're having a crab fest here at our house that day. A friend is coming into town from the UK on business and we're going to introduce him to the world of steamed crabs and BBQ. Have fun and post pictures and details! (Just don't write about it for your food newsletter and then mention it anywhere on the site.)

Hirams is right next to Callahans in Ft. Lee . Callahans is suppose to close in Sept to make way for a bank .

It actually makes a nice road trip to hit both stops in one trip .

I personaly like both , Hirams more of a bar atmosphere and Callahans right out of the 50s and 60s .

You should maybe try doing the Orange Co. pickup,and try priceline for a room in the area....

Harriman Train Commuter Lot will be the pick up point
0945 hrs for 1000am pickup.

Rt. 17 , 3 miles south of Woodbury Commons .
