Can the hot dog be any worse then the microwaved egg they serve. By the time it is passed out the window, it is a rubbery, yellow, disc. At least they have a fryer for the Dogs. If they nuke the dogs then that would just be aweful.

Back on March 16th, 2007 I posted about Smithfield Foods test marketing Subway-branded luncheon meats in Pathmark supermarkets in the NYC Metro area. Since that time, I have seen this product line slowly dwindle in Pathmark supermarkets. The newly-remodeled Pathmark in Massepequa, Long Island has NO Subway-branded cold cuts. I think it is fair to say the test was a failure. The Subway cold cuts were at the same price point and next to Dietz & Watson luncheon meats. No contest. There are plenty of foodservice companies that make pigs-in-a-blanket for wedding mills, corporate receptions, and the like. Nothing new here and not hard for DD to implement. But after a year and a half, I would think plenty of readers would have been able to purchase one of these pigs-in-a-blanket if the product was a success. Companies don't take out full page ads in The Wall Street Journal to announce their marketing failures. I have to assume by now this product did not pass the test.

quote:Originally posted by ScreenBear Still nothing from the field on Dunkin Donuts Hot Dogs? The Bear I am guessing that DD's has given up on the hot dog idea. All of the DD's around here (and there are many) have added a new food menu with flatbread sandwichs, small "personal" pizzas, and hash browns, all heated in new convection ovens. No hot dogs anywhere. Maybe it was just a test market idea that failed. DD's has in the past, several times, tried to add a line of food items outside of the usual egg/cheese/meat sandwiches. All have failed. In the 80's to early 90's, they had soups and croissant sandwiches (roast beef & cheese, tuna salad, broccoli and cheese). Then they tried a concept called Dunkin Deli, made to order sandwiches on something resembling a twisted bagel. Then there were the panini sandwiches of a couple of years ago. All of these food lines disappeared...it will be interesting to see how they do this time around.

Screenbear, I am curious why you keep bringing up this issue. There must be a funny story somewhere behind this. Did you place a bet for money, food, booze, etc. with someone over whether or not this product would fly?

DD is doing a total Corporate revamp of existing stores and a "New Image" look for new stores. Here's some little known facts about DD and based on all recent news releases from the company, I don't think Hot Dogs are in their future! "Founded in 1950, today Dunkin' Donuts is the number one retailer of hot regular coffee-by-the-cup in America, selling 2.7 million cups a day, nearly one billion cups a year. Dunkin' Donuts is also the largest coffee and baked goods chain in the world and sells more hot regular coffee, iced coffee, donuts, and bagels than any other quick service restaurant in America. Dunkin' Donuts has more than 7,200 franchised restaurants in 30 countries worldwide. Based in Canton, Massachusetts, Dunkin' Donuts is a subsidiary of Dunkin' Brands, Inc." They're bigger than Starbucks! For more info, Google Dunkin Donuts Remodeling. P.S. Surprisingly, 65% of their business comes from Beverages, not donuts and other stuff! They should be called Dunkin' Coffee!

Back in the mid to late 80's Wendys used to offer a hot dog....at least in Ohio. It was all beek a little garlicky and served on a slit top grilled bun......I used to eat them twice a week for lunch.

quote: Oh, that is interesting...I recall them opening one or two Dunkin Deli outlets around here in their stronghold (Boston area) but it seemed like it never caught on. Sounds like they are doing it in other states. Have you ever tried the dunkin deli sandwiches?

Day 910 and still no one has reported from the field on the Dunkin Donuts Dogs. I'm hoping that someone who's been on an island in the Pacific since WWII and didn't know the war was over, finally makes it to mainland U.S.A., stumbles into a Dunkin Donuts serving these elusive dogs, makes it to a computer, learns to use that computer, finds RoadFood.Com, and finally reports his findings on said dog. I can only hope. The Bear
