Did a search first, but couldn't come up the answer, so I figured I would ask here... Any good hot dog joints in Kingston NY (or nearby)? Many thanks, Stan...

IF you like chili dogs, Dallas Hot Wieners with two locations is great. And a diner on Albany Ave. that used to be called Texas Lunch, but recently changed its name to the Valley something or other has a very good chili dog. Some people like Uncle George's on Broadway, I don't care much for his chili sauce. Let us know id you find something else, and how you like the places I've suggested. Cheers, John New Paltz has a new chili dog joint that is excellent - Macho's . He also has a joint on lower Broadway in Kingston, but I've not been there. Cheers, john

Your other reply about the chili dogs to someone else did come up in my earlier search. Unfortunatly right now, my stomach won't handle chili dogs though . I was just looking for a good dog (preferably deep fried) that would be tasty plain, or with just a bit of mustard... Stan...

Deep fried dogs are unknown in the Hudson Valley. And since Lums in Poughkeepsie closed about 15 years ago, i'm not aware of any good non-chili dogs in the area. In the Summer there are some hot dog carts around that serve up good dogs - mostly dirty water type- and sometimes very good. Cheers, John

Went to Kingston this past Sunday for the Semi-Annual Kingston Postcard Show. Didn't find Uncle George's, found Dallas HW and Macho's, but they both are closed on Sunday. Did find another new place about halfway between Dallas and Macho's located also on Broadway called Big Belly's Hot Wieners, but alas, they are also closed on Sunday. Ended up at Wendy's about a mile or two up on 9W. On other matters though, you say "Deep fried dogs are unknown in the Hudson Valley." Do the poor, deprived, good people of the Hudson Valley realize what they are missing??? Take care and thanks again for getting back to me, Stan...

Sorry about Dallas and Macho being closed on Sundays - I didn't know they closed. Really sorry you had to wind up at Wendy's - there's good Mexican, seafood, and drinks available at a number of places down at the foot of Broadway, there's a pretty good diner way uptown on Broadway, and another on Albany avenue, and a place called Coyete Grill (I think its a chain) in the Hudson Valley Mall on Albany Ave. that serves a pretty good flan that they would likely not recognize in Mexico. And there's a very good BBQ out on Rt 28 west of Kingston - Hickory Smokehouse. If i want a good hotdog- other than a chili dog- I go to Newburgh Pork Store and buy some of their German butcher Shop type dogs and boil, steam, or grill them at home with lots of mustard and sauerkraut . It's a damn shame we dont have any place that I know of to get a good deepfried or steamed hotdog around here. Cheers, john
