I have been thinking about it and also done some research, but can't find a location that I feel would provide a big enough clientele to survive!

Just out of curiosity...CSD should know. Is there a national trade magazine for hot dog vendors...cart, truck, as well as brick and mortar venues? The Bear

Hopefully CSD will see this. There used to be a trade 'paper' that came out about 6 or so years ago. But they're long gone.. I thought of starting one up in the past, but just thinking about it was too darn mind boggling for me.

Do you honestly think that people in the hot dog business would care about reading a trade magazine? Here is someone who knows the business. Would he be a subscriber? There have been a few cart associations and trade magazines pertaining to the hot dog business. I'm not aware of any at this time. Most carts and stands are independents, with the owners being lone wolves just trying to take care of their own businesses. I go to numerous food and restaurant shows in the midwest throughout the year to stay current with products and trends. I read Crain's Chicago Business, which keeps my finger on the Chicago business pulse. Are you aware that Italian beef sales have tripled in Chicago during the last three years, while the retail food sales of hot dog have declined. You won't find that in a hot dog trade magazine or journal. (CSD says) Are you aware that Italian beef sales have tripled in Chicago during the last three years, while the retail sales(food stores) of hot dogs in Chicago have declined. This type information can't be obtained in a hot dog trade magazine or journal. So! CSD, does that mean you will be changing your menu? I will be in your direction in May. Please advise your address and I will look you up and buy some dogs. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Paul, I'll continue to sell Vienna Beef hot dogs and Polish at the cart. My license also allows vending of Italian beef, corned, beef, bbq beef, and pastrami. We work a fast track with hot dogs and want to keep things simple. Why mess with success? However, in July, we'll test market a KC pulled pork sandwich. This year our official opening date is Saturday, July 1st, which is the grand opening of the 3rd phase the shopping mall. We'll be open during Memorial weekend 5/27 & 5/28. Drop me an e-mail and we'll go to Jake's. CSD
