Hot dog topping.

This is now my go-to hot dog:

Bun
Shoot yellow mustard down one side,
Sriracha down the other
A layer of sweet pickled jalapeños
A Nathan's hot dog
Onions
Top with Wendy's chili.

That's it. If I had onions I'd toss 'em on, onions don't hurt hot dogs.
Edited to add onions to the toppings.

    In this order:
    Bun, steamed
    Kosher dog
    Yellow Mustard
    Beanless chili, homemade
    Coleslaw, homemade
    Kraut 
     
    Wendy's chili would be fine, minus the beans.  I just can't have beans on a hot dog.

    kosher dog - browned on a griddle or grill
    mustard - can be yellow, brown or stone ground
    finely diced onion
    homemade hot dog chili sauce
    homemade coleslaw on the top
     
    In my opinion, the onions should not be put on the top, but in the middle, held in place by the chili sauce and the slaw.

    I remember going to places that had some sort of onions that were VERY fine, almost like they had been shoved through a fine mesh or something, and I really liked them. The drive in theater was one place. Anybody have any idea what these were? Dehydrated and re-constituted perhaps?

    oh, I like Wendy's chili. I just never thought about buying it and taking it home for hot dog topping. Good idea though.

    Wendy's chili actually makes an excellent hot dog topping. It isn't too watery, it tastes okay, and it is a decent value. Use someon the dogs, and mix the rest into the baked beans, with a little bit of BBQ sauce.
     
    And, I think I will officially add onions to my list. I did them that way last night, and they were better.

    I haven't seen a Wendy's hot dog since the mid 80s.  They were really good.

    Soft fresh bun -- ample size to hold it all, small hoagie buns are good.
    One good wiener of choice, but skinless.
    Couple streaks of regular yellow mustard.
    Generous spoonfuls of our homemade favorite sloppy joes (Midwest style).
    Raw onions are great, but don't really matter (and I am a true onion lover).
     
    If the buns area little old, can wrap in wax paper and mike for a few seconds -- or it may steam enough just from the hot filling.
     
    Chips and pickles on the side.

    OK, I admit I am one of those weird folks who likes mayo on a hot dog. Mayo and Salsa! Although that is pretty common in Mexico.

    About once a week lately, I've been getting foot long Hebrew Nationals from the restaurant around the corner from mine, with mustard and "Rochester Sauce". It's a spicy beef sauce, not sure exactly what they put in it (ok, he won't tell me), but there is definitely some tomato, cinnamon, and celery seed. Very, very good.

    Well, this thread made me so hungry, I couldn't take it any longer.  Didn't have any chili or kraut on hand, so I topped a Hebrew National dog with sour cream, mustard, coleslaw, and a dusting of celery salt.

    If I don't have any of my All-the-Way hot dog sauce handy (which would be in place of the Chow Chow below), it goes like this:
    1) Regular store brand hot dog rolls - warmed
    2) Oscar Meyer Angus bun length uncured beef franks, boiled (I know, I know, don't say it), then briefly put under the broiler to give them a little char/color and a snap when I bite into them
    3) Chow Chow (sweet, not hot)
    4) One stripe of Spicy brown mustard
    5) A small handful of Chopped sweet onion spread across the top from end to end
    Served with chips or home made potato salad, and any beverage of what I am in the mood for.
     
    That is about it with maybe a small variation if I am out of any of the above ingredients.

    All of the above and I sure wish I could find some sport peppers like they put in the Chicago dog. Been using those little yellow peppers in the pepper vinegar sauce. Wish I could find that neon green relish too.
