I was thrilled to pay $1.35 somewhere in the backroads of South Carolina last weekend. It is still in the mid $1.70s here in Pittsburgh.

Michael Hoffman This morning I passed a couple of stations near my home and the price had gone up by 50-cents a gallon since last week -- from $1.49.9 last week to $1.99.9 this morning. When I read this yesterday, I thought you were nuts - maybe you drove past a station that went out of business or something. Then, when driving home last night, I did see a spike in gas prices. It wasn't a 50-cent spike here - but, maybe 20 cents in the last week or so (mid-$1.50s to mid-$1.70s).

Not here. Still slowly climbing...most places now are in the $1.80s - and, as crazy as it sounds, it seems hard to gripe when we were paying $4+ just a couple of months ago.

About a month ago I saw an independent-brand station in NW Indiana selling reg. for $1.43; now this week every station in the same region is pricing around $2.00. Go figure.

Look at the post just above this one. Just filled up the SUV and it almost cost me a half day's work. $3.19 a gallon at the Shell station after passing up $3.29 at the Mobile. Think it's the car from now on. I'm in the Los Angeles area.

We went down to 2.60 at one point this summer but we're pushing 3 and beyond again depending where you buy. We have the joy of being considered a "collar" county to Chicago (even though we're 45 miles west) so we pay extra in taxes towards mass transportation. If I drive 9 miles west to De Kalb County, it's generally 10 cents cheaper.
