I only got 11, and I'll admit a couple of those were guesses.

Hello All, I only got 11 as well. I think some of the questions are slanted. For example, I live in Rockingham County, Va. and we claim to be the Turkey Capital of the World, producing the most turkeys, (something we may have done a few years ago, but times change.) Also, I believe the Spanish in the New World probably had a form of Thanksgiving before the puritans, and in Virginia, claim having a Thanksgiving before the puritans. Regardless, a good quiz. Take Care, Fieldthistle

I didn't do so well with only 8 right. However, I did know Minnesota produced the most turkeys because we have the feathered kind and the politician kind with boa feathers.

Your score: Wow!, you got 16 questions right! You're a turkey expert! And having watched hundreds of wild turkeys fly, I'm sure I really got 17 right.

Since most everything I know comes from playing Trivial Pursuit and I don't recall any questions about Thanksgiving, I got only 8 correct. pb

Not to be overly pedantic, but the first Thanksgiving Day (capital T capital D) in the United States was November 26th, a Thursday, 1789. Congress had passed a resolution calling for such a day and President Washington proclaimed it as the date above. There is no doubt that "thanks were given" on many occasions in North America prior to the famous celebration at Plymouth colony in 1621. Settlers in Maine probably celebrated 1n 1607 and there were several "thanksgiving" celebrations in Jamestown before 1621. Also, Spanish settlers in Florida are known to "give thanks " in a public celebration during the late 1500s. American Indians are known to have held Corn Harvest Festivals long before any Europeans arrived in North America - that certainly would serve as a "thanksgiving". Not that any of this matters a Hell of a lot, but that quiz is full of such questionable information. Like, who gives a damn where Arkansas ranks in turkey production? BTW:New York ranks 12th in turkey production. I urge you to try to prove me wrong in that assertion. Cheers, John

Well, the quiz should check it's own facts. That Benjamin Franklin advocated the turkey as the national symbol is incorrect. What happened was that a military regiment's symbol looked more like a turkey to him than an eagle, so he wrote a mocking letter, suggesting that maybe it was a turkey by intent, and giving the "reasons" why the turkey should be the national symbol. There is no question that it was mockery, not a proposal. In any case, I got 14 right. SPOILER: strangely enough, when I visited Israel in the late 60's, I had a turkey dinner; it was at that time that turkeys were just being introduced there.

I only got 10 answers correct. Guess I don't know much about turkeys. We usually have pork roast for Thanksgiving and prime rib for Christmas. David O.
