How any of you adults eat Happy Meals, etc?

Just curious. A couple of weeks ago, I was hungry. But not hungry enough for a meal. I wanted a snack, but not a candy bar. So I swung through MickeyD's and got a happy meal. (I've got my asbestos suit on). And...surprise...perhaps it's because I'd not been to McDonald's for a LONG time...but...it was good, hot, hit the spot without stuffing myself. While I won't do it on a daily basis, I think it's a better choice pricewise and foodwise than a big ole candy bar and big gulp. Any thoughts? And, really...I thought the toy was kinda cool.

When our daughter was little we always got happy meals. Who needs those ridiculously large supersized portions? We liked the toys, we liked the toys more than we liked the food. The happy meal food was far more enjoyable than the honkin' big value meal things.

I have a daughter who is so cheap she used to buy one Happy Meal for her son and her daughter. Her son was 14 at the time, and six feet tall, 180 pounds and a football player and wrestler. He'd come over to my house afterwards to eat.

If I'm absolutely required to go to a McDonald's I will get a cheeseburger Happy Meal, even though my Whole Foods friend yells about commercial chain hamburger meat. I mean, their fries are good, and it's about the only time you can get an actual small coke from a chain anymore. And the toy quality is such that they have to be losing money on the whole deal.

I will get a Happy Meal (chesseburger) every now and then because the portion and price are often right. And yes, the toys are amusing. Andrea

I feel sorry for him, because I try to make sure I buy the biggest portion at a restaurant when I go (even if someone's paying). He knows where to go for good food though.

I get the Happy Meal for breakfast all the time. It's just about right. You get a sausage bisquit, hashbrowns and a drink. I was able to build the whole Inspector Gadget doll and have a big box of assorted toys from eating these. joe

I get them if I go there because the portion is the right size for a meal. Also, I think secretly most adults are still tickled when they get a toy with lunch.

I agree. We all have a little bit of kid in us, no matter how old we are. :)

Count me in as one of the Happy Meal collectors (and other Mctrinkets, including regionals & some from Canada), although it was easy about 10 years ago to complete a set since there were only 4 toys to get; now it's about 8-16.

I get the Happy Meal occasionally: hamburger, apple dippers, and milk, to save both money and calories. I just said to my kids last week that I wonder if there's someone or someplace that has a collection of EVERY Happy Meal toy since the beginning?

All the time. A cheeseburger Happy Meal with orange drink is one of my favorites. I save the toys & we send them to my cousins in Mexico.

There used to be an All-American Meal on McD's menu that consisted of a hamburger or cheeseburger, small fries and small drink. It's about the same price as a Happy Meal {@ $2.00}. Although it is not on the menu anymore, you can still order it. I don't usually do McD's, but if the grandkids insist {or I need some food really quick}, I will order the cheese All-American Meal. It's just the right amount of food, and I don't need the toy.

Same thing with our "Meat & Potatoes" (sausage biscuit & hash browns) deal (ask for it) for 99c. About the HM toys, a couple in FWB down the road from me have a large stash; some toys are tougher to get than others.

I either get a Happy meal or the Southwest Salad. Those are the only things I'll order from McD's. And yes the toy still makes me happy!

My son loves McD's cheeseburgers, so we get them occaisionally for him. He won't eat their fries so I do. We have been switching to get the apples instead of the fries lately and then I dont get my fries

I was at McDonald's in Ontario, Canada about a decade ago and had what they called an "Adult Happy Meal"..a quarter pounder or fillet o fish, large fries, drink, Nestle Crunch bar and an instant lotto ticket. Wonder if they still have those?

They tested, then rolled out an "Adult Happy Meal" for about a month in 2004: Large salad, 20 oz. bottle of Dasani Water & as the "toy", a pedometer.

Wow, I had forgotten the Salad and Pedometer combination. I actually thought it was a pretty good idea, but it sure didn't last....

Add me to the list of admitted Happy Meal eaters. I love giving the toys to friends' kids and the meal is good and not too big. (When hungrier I also admit going for a Big Mac meal.) I think McD's beef is better than its competitors. Plus I could swear they add extra vitamin &/or mineral supplements. A regular hamburger always makes me feel better when I am run down or feel a cold coming on. [Don't laugh, try it! Works for me. ] I still wish they hadn't changed their shake formula though. It used to be a really healthy drink (it even managed to make a list of foods in Runner's World magazine that were "good for you but you don't know it"), now its higher fat content makes me feel guilty. The regular burgers are also really low fat, something like 9 grams. Amazing.

Generally every time I go to McDonalds I get a chicken nugget happy meal with no salt on the fried and a diet soda---I think it's really quite filling. I can't believe that they made the standard nugget combo 10 nuggets--that is far too much for anyone.

^Really, 10 nuggets? That's outrageous! I haven't ordered a Happy Meal in years, but I do order from the Dollar Menu often. A cheeseburger & small fries off the dollar menu is essentially a Happy Meal without the drink and toy. --Jessica
