How cold does it have to get........ Thu, 12/12/13 5:39 PM (permalink)
.......before you stay home from you're daily spot?
I'm addressing those with a cart and basically no protection from the cold.
I'm good down to the upper 40's, IF THERE IS NO WIND!!

28 with the cart.   Looks like I will be out with temps between 20-29 (not including bs wind chill) this weekend poss. 4-5 inches of snow. I will be using an ez-up and electric counter top food warmer set up. Have to wrap the coffee urn with a jacket to keep the water from cooling off. Just hope the wind isn't coming from the direction of the service side of the tent this weekend (like last weekend) so I can put up a wall or 2.

As long as the temp. is in the 40's and no rain. I don't go out if the chance of rain is above 50%. If it's not a strong wind I still go out.

OK, today on my way the temp. sign said 32. On the way home it said 31. Rained most of the day.Parade was canceled, but my weekly spot at the community market was open for their Xmas bazzaar.  Had a 10x10 E-Z Up and a propane heater. Was dressed in layers. What killed me was cold toes, even with two pairs of socks.
So. I guess I'm not so much a wimp. And I need electric socks.

i will work my cart normally until the temp dips below 15.

at that point things like my salsas, cilantro, and onions begin to freeze on the cart.  What i have just started doing is pre-making burritos (limits my menu greatly) which i can keep warm on my steam table and sell them.

i learned a trick from good eats, using bricks left in the oven at about 400 degrees, wrapped in foil, then wrapped with towels, placed in a ice chest will keep things warm for quite some time.  This allows me to bring extras

having pre made burritos speeds up my service time greatly and keeps me working.  I can't work much below 10 due to frost bite.  But as long as it is in the teens i'll be working.  People in maine are used to the cold and will stop by my cart while out and about. Especially in the late night hours when they have a few drinks in them.
