Huddle House or Waffle House?

I'm a big fan of the WaHo, but over the summer I was in Danville, KY, and stopped in at the local HuHo for breakfast. I have to say I was impressed. The dining room was cleaner, and brighter. The menu had everything WaHo has and more. I always thought that what WaHo's menu lacked in variety, it made up for in taste. Huho seemes to be the best of both worlds. The breakfast I had was similar in taste to WaHo's, (right down to cleverly renamed hash browns scattered, smothered, and covered) but just as good, if not better. I haven't tried their waffles yet, but I will the next time I'm southeast of the Ohio River. True, HuHo is an imitator, but it seems like they have improved on the southern style diner concept, and let's not forget that WaHo borrowed a lot from Toddle House (TaHo).

Huddle House only in my area. They always cook my eggs to order and service is good. The hash browns are always under-cooked and I have to specify that I want mine extra crispy on the outside. On the other hand, I sometimes frequent Waffle House when I am in metro Atlanta area and have same results. Do not really like waffles or pancakes so I can't comment on this. Grits good but bland @ both chains. Both seem to have rather good club sandwiches, etc., etc.

Waffle House is over rated in my opinion. Stopped by in Nashville and was really let down. Frankly, I know specializing is a good thing usually, but the menu needs to offer more choices and better prices...

For a southern chain, I have always been surprised that they didn't have at least Biscuits & Gravy on the menu. BTW, almost any WH I have found will make you pancakes, although they aren't on the menu, by simply putting the waffle batter on the grill.

I actually went to a Waffle House the other day on a trip back from the Macon, GA area. I had both my wife and mother in tow. Anyway, while the service was GREAT, the menu selections came NO WAY close to the variety of what is offered at the Huddle House chain. This was rather dissapointing, especially since there was a Huddle House right on the other side of I-75. My mistake.

When I asked about pancakes the server jokingly told me I was at the Waffle House, not IHOP. John

My experience with WH has been that the closer you get to NOLA, the better the food, service and sweet tea gets ( I live near Atlanta now, the WH is okay) Huddle house and Omlette Hut are so much smaller and frankly tend to hold their own.
