Hudsons Ribs & Fish/ Wappingers Falls Tue, 04/19/11 10:58 PM (permalink)
Planning a family reunion and this restaurant has been suggested for 4th of July weekend. I don't know the area and was looking for input from anyone who has been there. I saw some decent reviews for it on the net, but would value a locals opinion.

Hudson's Ribs has a good reputation around here- sorry I can't report from personal experience as I've never been there. The small city of Beacon is close to Wappingers; it's main street is loaded with trendy little restaurants - we found the Piggy Bank to be seriously lacking as a BBQ joint. Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park are also nearby. Good hotdogs can be had at Soul Dog on Main Street, Poughkeepsie, and Andy's Place is a great joint for a bowl of chili; and one of the oldest pizza joints in the Hudson Valley, Alloys, is right at the entrance to the wonderful old RR bridge which is now called The Walkway Over The Hudson - a fun  three  mile walk across the river and back. Just outside Poughkeepsie and before Hyde Park is the Culinary Institute of America -four restaurants - a bit upscale and  well worth the visit. In the little hamlet of Hyde Park is the nationally famous Eveready Diner, good diner fare and outstanding baked goods. The Dutchess Diner, just north of Wappingers on Rt 9 is an old Dutchess County institution - but recently seems to have gotten a bit pretentious for a diner...

There are certainly more interesting places to eat in the area, but Hudson's does the classic American steak/seafood thing very well, and is a good choice for a family reunion.
