Hungarian Garlic Sausage Help

My uncle was Hungarian and grew up in Aurora, Illinois, just outside of Chicago, where there was a sizable Hungarian population for a number of years. He used to get a garlic sausage at the Jewel grocery store there that was outstanding. It was dark, almost a greyish black. My uncle passed away about 15 years ago or so and I miss him and the sausage. Anybody got a line on where I can grab some or what other names it's known by?

I believe what you are describing in Hungarian is pernounced
Hooda Ka. It's not spelled right but sounds like. Any old Hungarian would no what your talking about. It's made 2 different ways. There is a dark and a white. Both are great. 45 years ago my father would go to the butcher shop. It was made once a week and you had to place an order in advance. My mouths watering thinking about it. If you find a place in Jersey let me know.

John, it's a much sought-after thing for me. Somebody told me to check out a butcher shop up in New Glarus, Wisconsin for it. I can remember the rich smell of the sausage as it cooked...oh man!

Stanley's makes several varieties of Hungarian Sausages. Explore their web site. I think they'll ship.

Anything I've ever purchased has been terrific.

There are two great butcher shops in New Glarus; here's one of them http://www.ruefsmeatmarket.com/ Not being Hungarian, I'm not familar with what you are talking about, but I do know of several places that make "Hungarian" summer sausage. PM me if you want some names. These seem to have lots of garlic and paprika but otherwise are just very tasty summers. I think Usingers makes a Hungarian link sausage.
