Since the link doesn't allow one to directly access the report mentioned, but rather presents one with an ad (on the right) to buy said report, I sorta kinda take this as a commercial ad...... Don't know if the admins here will agree.....

Sorry, thought the newsletter might relate to Roadfood News since it reports on a tour conducted by some fellow roadfooders. If it offends please remove.

Well, it certainly does not offend me. Thank you for the information. I look forward to reading the report and obtaining Cheesewit's recipe for cheesesteak sandwiches.

Don't know if the admins here will agree..... An ad? C'mon TJ, you've posted here lots. You've gotta be familiar with HG's contributions here on the boards and attendance at Roadfood events. It's not like he joined Roadfood just to peddle his mag. He has always been upfront about being a writer and editor of his own magazine and was upfront about covering TCT '04 for it. I see it as an announcement that it is now complete and in published form. I ain't offended by the announcement, either.

To clarify no, I am not offended :-) yes, I've seen the contributions over time :-) it's more a matter that the post entices one to read said report and then the link to said report is really to a page where one can purchase said report......the fact that the info isn't free to me makes the post an ad of sorts. But hey, like I said, I am not an admin here, and they may see it differently. But that's all I was saying.

****Disclaimer:I'm speaking for me, as a moderator on this board, but not for the Roadfood team**** I personally do not find a problem with this post or the one in Lighter Fare/ Cheesesteak Tour. hungovergourmet has a number of posts to his credit here, and offers other good information and tidbits on his own site for free. We all are prone to giving away free advertisements , whether it be for an event/festival we announce, a mom and pop place we recommend, or a fast food joint that we begin WW III about. Although I have not seen them, I seriously doubt if hungovergourmet gets his undies in a bunch if the roadfood site is mentioned on his yahoo group forums. When I DO object is when someone comes in, without any established rapport with the rest of the community, and posts ONE post and uses advertising doublespeak to try to disguise it's intent. That to me is gratuitous and a no-no. And that's the way I calls it on this.

I have experienced plane changes where I was hungry and my standards definately change. I know they would if I had been on a plane for many hours. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Wow, sorry... didn't mean to stir up such a kettle of fish. My apologies and I would prefer that this is simply taken down at this point. As far as the "disingenuous" part goes, I simply pointed to the home page of the site rather than post to an order page because I felt that would be crass. If somebody wanted to check out the site for more info they could. If they didn't want to, so be it. Not twisting any arms. Wasn't trying to be sneaky or underhanded.

I'm thinking that if the post mentioned the charge, it would have seemed less like an ambush to those who found it offensive. I'd have been inclined to offer it up as a free sample to reach this targeted group ... A group that would be inclined to subscibe long-term after sampling. Something that could be easily done -- without postage -- as a PDF file.

I think that the whole point of this, so far..., is that there are no free handouts, even to RF regulars. I am OK with that.

Dan, aka Hungover Gourmet, is one of our own. He and Christine have been enthusiastic participants in several of the ad hoc Roadfood Tours, and he is a quality contributor to this site over a long period. Save your attacks for those only interested in promoting something, who are not long standing members of this community.

Yes, you made a big ole kettle of fish but I love fish. And I also like very lively agruement and your post did that too, I say let the topic live, there's nothing like a good old night at the fights.

It's a long way from Anchorage to the rest of the world! Could CheeseWit please pick up the white courtesy phone and post that recipe?

Hello, picking up the white courtesy phone now...my recipe has actually been posted already. Look on the thread "Making Philly Cheesesteaks at Home" in the recipes topic. I refuse to get involved with the bruhaha regarding this thread by hungover gourmet. I will say this: Dan has been an active contributor to Roadfood.com and I have always read his posts. If you find this thread objectionable, then just leave it and look up the virtues of Arby's.

Well I for one don't understand all the lore of Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches. I had 2 last week, 1 @ Steve's King of Steaks uptown and 1 @ Tony Luke's downtown. While both were good and TL's was better neither sandwich makes me scream for more. Now pork roll on the othe hand...I brought 3 lbs home with me, along with 2.5 gallons of buttermilk MikeS.
